Technically, I do not believe that this would "against the governor's order".

It is hard to say. His words were pretty vague. It does stipulate that contractors can continue work but only at venues that are essential business. I don’t think this place considers themselves essential considering they shut down. BUT the big three shut down also, so that may have been their reasoning. Either way, it will affect the amount of work we get the rest of this year if it doesn’t straighten out soon. Our company in itself is not considered an essential business unless we go to work somewhere that is.

Oh, I could get satellite, but up until the last 3 weeks, the DSL worked well enough. Not going to do that now just so I can stay home when I have no more risk in my office.

We’re in about the same boat. Up until a week or so ago, ATT cell service (with a cell phone amplifier) was....OK. But I’ve noticed a lot more buffering and general slow downs recently.

Our REMC is running fiber optics in their service area. It’s hanging on the poles, in front of our house but that’s about as far as they’ve gotten.

Not to get too deep in the weeds, but based upon the servicing of an auto plant, and based upon the executive order itself and not a speech about it, I bet a decent lawyer could make a case that would hold up that the business IS essential under the order...but given how broad the order is, that's not a stretch.

Do what you can to stay safe and remember that despite the horror stories, 80% of people show no to very mild symptoms and of the 20%, that show greater symptoms, not even all of them need hospitalization....and the higher risk groups remain the higher risk groups.

No time off here except for my usual weekends. Vehicles still need to be fixed so there's always work to be done.

We are expecting the economy not to bounce back right away. People aren't going to spend money in a bear market. There will be layoffs after all the shoring up runs out. Not right away, probably around June. Historically April has been the best month for getting employment, and that will be a long way off.

I've been working from home, and so has my wife. I think we are working from home till the end of the month.

On week 5 myself, and doubt there is an end in sight based on my employer and customer. Fine with me, as I WFH a couple of days a week normally. Wife has underlying health conditions that are pretty serious so staying away from people and not bringing anything back to her is a top priority for me and the kids (they are both studying at home from college).

My wife is running her side of her small business from our kitchen table as we had not set her up a dedicated space in the new to us house yet (I'm in the home office). Her business partner is doing all the outside work (mostly done at night, no contact with people, etc). Pretty amazing as there is no physical contact between them during all of this, with one operating inside and the other working out of our garage/car prepping for installations, etc.

Wife has been working from home since this started. I've been going into the office until late last week were we were told to work from home unless we are teaching a class. I'm getting quite a bit done from home, we all are. So much so that the question will become, "Why is keeping office hours a necessity?"

I've been asking this question for a long time. We have been in the process of reducing our agency's footprint in our building. This means desk sharing in many cases, smaller cubicles, lower cubicle walls... our new work area (which we were just starting to move into right before they told us to work from home) looks very much like the office space of the 1960's with just a big open room full of desks. Lousy timing for increasing both proximity and exposure (from the lower cube walls).

Working in IT, there is absolutely nothing that I can do in the office that can't be done working from home what with Skype and plain old conference calls. They could reduce our footprint in the building to almost zero if they truly wanted to. I'm much more productive when working from home too.

A friend of mine has been doing that from home for years. I don’t know for what company. She used to drive 4-6 hours everyday round trip to go to Indy for work. Then she threatened to quit. They said oh how bout we just set you up at home. Now she’s moved from here to Virginia and then to florida. Still doing the same working from home and only going in when absolutely needed but has since been promoted and sometimes has to fly out to places. But still been working basically from home for at least 8 years now.

I've got 7 years (hopefully) until retirement. Wouldn't bother me a bit if I never had to go to the office again. I like my coworkers, but I can like them through email and instant messaging. :): I don't even go to office Christmas parties or whatnot.

A few months back I scheduled a week of vacation to coincide with spring break at the schools. A few more days of fun and then back to work for me too. With nowhere to go, I’ve gotten a lot done at the house.

Last week I had to choose between burning vacation or going on furlough. I chose vacation. This week I chose furlough. I hope they call us back to full time work next week, but it isn't looking good.

Both weeks I have still worked...from home.

Our business is considered essential so off to work it is provided you don't trigger the body temperature monitors that cover each employee entrance. Wife has started week 3 of mandatory WFH. She hates it.
