Im sure I am going to regret this,
but without anyone having a stroke can someone explain to me why one wouldn't wear a mask?
Is their evidence suggesting a negative side to wearing a mask?
    No stroke here.
I don’t wear a mask because the only people I will be face to face with or close enough to are my wife, kids, and grandkids. I believe you pretty much have to inhale droplets someone else has sneezed, coughed, or spit directly at you for a mask to have a chance of stopping it.
On the other side of the discussion, I would make sure I avoid coughing, sneezing, or spitting on anyone else so tell me why do I need to wear a mask?

A big negative about masks is the false security masks give people. They seem to think the mask will block the virus and keep them completely safe so they don’t need to take any other precautions ultimately making them MORE susceptible.
besides all that, the majority I have seen wearing masks are not wearing them properly AND end up touching their face MUCH more than they would without the mask.

As far as Menards goes, they have no business telling customers they MUST wear masks and that they can’t bring their children in the store. Those are personal decisions.
Of course they have the right to do what they want. I just think it’s wrong!

Where ever my GPS says I am
Probably business is so off they decided to go appointment only instead of sitting there all day. I've heard of a few places doing that. Tell your friend to try one of the many rescues or shelters. We've gotten some GREAT dogs there and I believe they know they've been given a reprieve when they walk out of them with their new humans.

Shelter was something she wants but local shelter is still closed. I have my personal thoughts about it but that is a longer story. She should wait until the shelter opens but she really wants another one apparently.

The level of butthurts on the facemask requirement at businesses... even after all these posts and explanations, I don't see where the real outrage is. Wear a mask and go there or don't wear a mask and don't go there.
I’ve only read as far as your post (#41) so far, but haven’t see. Any outrage or “butthurt” yet.

Another thought occurred to me the other day at work. It’s one thing when it’s 50-60F outside. Sucking in cool, dry air all day long is one thing. It will be interesting to see how gung-ho all the mask wearers are in a few weeks when you’re sucking in that 90F, 95% humid air through those things. I’m thinking the fad will fade pretty quickly then.
    Yep!

I can only tolerate a mask for a little while (and I'm talking about a lightweight cloth mask or even a bandana - not sure what an N95 would be like). I start feeling almost claustrophobic in them, and I'm not normally claustrophobic. I guess work is telling the people that are still going into the office that they need to wear masks. If they wind up calling us back to the office and want us to wear masks, I'm going to strongly protest that. Not because of any safe/not safe argument, but just because of the claustrophobic feeling.

Even the disposable paper masks the hospital would give me when I was visiting DoggyMama when she had MRSA made me feel that way.

I'm tempted to be a smart ass and put my bandana around my chin and if questioned state the sign doesn't specify how to wear.
I needed to pick up more of a tile that was purchased at Menards so I couldn’t go anywhere else. I was in the front of the store for a good 15 minutes waiting behind some idiots who couldn’t work the return receipt machine and returning an item with no one saying anything to me. I did hear an employee yelling at everyone else walking in without a mask and directing them to the counter to BUY a really cheap “surgical” looking mask (one lady put hers on, walked 20 feet and had to return because the cheap rubber band broke). The same employee told another customer he couldn’t bring his kid (about 13y.o.) in the store.
I walked all the way back to the tile area before another employee who I have a good rapport with found me and told me they had radioed him to find the guy in the red sweatshirt because I didn’t have a mask. I had a good long 15-20 minutes conversation with him before I put my “mask” on. While we talked, he touched his face and/or mask at least 10 times, most of the time his mask was below his nose. All of that time his mask was not making a seal on the sides of his face. He said he’s afraid of the moisture build up (he was sweating. It is very warm in the Greenwood store.) in the mask being a breeding ground for bacteria!
I knew about the mask rule ahead of time so I found the thinnest rag in my truck. I draped it around my neck and continued my shopping. I went to the contractors desk and ordered plywood, went to the electrical department and had to as the employee to find an item for me. He asked me to put my “mask” on. I said ok (but didn’t) and asked him if he thought his was doing any good. He took that as an argument (it wasn’t) and said it was “the rules”. He was wearing (and touching constantly) the cheapest, thinnest “dust mask” they make. He didn’t like me telling him that it was simply a dust mask and not even a good one and did absolutely NO good against this virus. I won’t even use that type of mask for sweeping floors or simple dusting. If I need a mask while working I use an N-95 (which I used to be able to get free after rebate by the ten packs) or a doubled up painters rag.
I finished my shopping with the rag around my neck, went through the register with no problem and even stopped to ask a question at the front desk on my way out with no problem or discussion at all.

I should have have taken a picture, besides all the sign plastered all over their front windows and doors, just inside the entrance near the carts is a 4’x8’ sign with their restrictions AND a security guard(?) who I walked right past with no mask on.

I live "In the shadows" on this board because it's nobodies business where I live unless I want them to know.
I work in one of the highest concentrations of this virus in the state. I take proper precautions there also. I have 2 immediate family members who are nurses who work in the nursing homes.

When I was in Iraq for 3 years, I wore a helmet when I was suppose to. What was the percentage of head wounds overall? Don't know but I wanted to minimize my risks. What is the percentage of police officers who get shot? Don't know but I'd buy one of them a vest if they said they needed it to minimize their risk.

I'm not hiding from the real world believe me. I have to deal with the little **** stains every single day at work. I believe that people can make their own decisions but that all decisions have consequences. Sometimes collateral damage is acceptable and sometimes not. Roll the dice.

And you are free to do whatever you think is needed to keep you and yours safe.

The problem being expressed in this thread is that people are being told how to care for themselves and their own. Many find that unacceptable and wish to use critical thinking to make their own decisions about their care.

This is the great thing about our country, Menards is free to make their policies and we are free to accept them or go elsewhere.

    Menards, awesome....

Last week I forgot my N95 at work but wasn't turning back. They conveniently pointed me to the customer service desk where I was able to buy a mask for $1 and start my shopping.

It was awesome how hospitable they were.

I cant believe some folks would make a big Stink of this. How miserable they must be...

You are repeating your self, a sure sign of insecurity.

Your mother would ask, "If Menards told you to lick a toilet seat, would you do it?"

Went to the Merrillville Menard's today for groceries. In and out in less than 20 minutes. No lines what so ever.

The problem being expressed in this thread is that people are being told how to care for themselves and their own.

Um, actually, no. They are being asked to be a decent human being and keep their germs to themselves, since it is possible to transmit the disease for up to a week without knowing you have it. Shame that people have to be forced to do something that will prevent illness or death in others.

The problem is that well over 50% of people aren't even wearing them properly. Also if the mask, like some N95s, have the exhalation valve, they are not filtering the exhalation so it is literally doing no good in protecting others.
These requirements for masks are nothing more than feel good measures. I have heard from 2 Menards employees the only reason they are doing it, is so they can skirt the requirements for how many people are allowed in per sq/ft. So it all boils down to corporate greed and has nothing to do with your well being or their employees
