In Fort Wayne I typically me at the State Police Post parking lot. I also require....(which some don't like) that they text me a pic of their drivers license before meeting. I have had a number of people no show and this commits them a little more. In addition, I know who I am meeting. In person then I require the carry card and have them sign a bill of sale which states the following: BY SIGNING THIS BILL OF SALE I AGREE THAT I HAVE PROVIDED A VALID INDIANA DRIVERS LICENSE AND INDIANA LICENSE TO CARRY. ADDITIONALLY I AGREE THAT I CAN LEGALLY OWN A FIREARM AND MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS TO DO SO.
I recognize this is a hassle for some, but it is my firearm and we play by my rules if you want to buy it. I could careless if people walk away.

I'd rather do an FFL transfer than drop that much info in a private party's hands. Not that a lot can't be tracked down on the internet anyway, etc, but sending any kind of info like that to someone I don't really know is not going to happen (I wouldn't even send a pic of my DL via text to someone I did know for a legit purpose just due to concerns with the insecurity of the transfer mechanism and the lack of control once it does get to their side).

I get it that those are your rules, but I'd never subject myself to that on a private sale, and if it was something that I absolutely had to have and could not get another way and those were the requirements, I'd rather just go to an FFL and do the transfer there. I realize it puts some info into the hands of the FFL, but hopefully he's got a bit more to lose by mishandling my info than a private seller would.

I usually have just said I'd like to see a driver's license and prefer to see LTCH as well.

I did a bill of sale once when the buyer brought one with him and I was taken by surprise, since I previously said I don't do bills of sale when asked. I filled it out to be cooperative (I'm working on being less of a pushover), but would not do it again. I'm sure the person had good intent, but I prefer to not have someone I don't know personally be in possession of my address and driver's license number.

^^^This^^^ But disclaimer: Since I'm a C&R license holder, I'm required by law to get certain information and record it in my bound book if I'm buying or selling a C&R eligible gun. Buying from you - I just need name and address. Selling to you, I need your DL information (including DL number) or if you're also a C&R holder, I'll need that info. But I'm always up front about that whether buying or selling so there's no surprises for anyone.

I will say people do things for a reason.........and experience is a great teacher. It's not about being paranoid as one stated and I have done transfers via the local shop as well and people don't like that either even if it cost them nothing.

Well are you not just special.....:):
Are you nuts. Because that's just nuts. I will not show my credentials to anyone from this site unless you are LEO and I was speeding....:lmfao:
Nothing you or anyone else has could require I send you my personal info. That's just whack.

That's what's makes INGO so good - I don't have to see a DL from a whole lot of members. A piece of paper (well, plastic) isn't going to tell me anything more than what I know. I don't need to get a BoS from folk on here.

But you might get a Cheeseburger. And some good conversation.

That's my point and why we have the rules in place to make this a solid platform to make friends, buy, sell, trade, meet eat and shoot.

If you want credentials from this site you are not a regular posting member. Which is one of the criteria we have put in place.

Send you my personal info.........OK that's just insane.

You forgot a blood sample, fingerprints, interview with the neighbors and three references.

But no matter, because I refuse to buy a gun from anyone who says "COULD care less."

I would say on a dark country road in the middle of nowhere at a crossroads at midnight the seller should dress in a clown suit with a mask. This will automatically place the buyer at ease once they spot a clown they will relax. Once the seller identifies the buyer they should skip towards the buyer saying in a sing song voice “lets make a deal” or something to that effect.

The seller should identify himself with a appropriate name such as Mr.X or Dark Bob and refer to himself as many times possible during the sale. Once the deal is made two pieces of paper need to be signed one acknowledging the buyer purchasing a firearm from a clown. The other signs the buyer’s soul to satan.

After the transaction sellers discretion to stalk buyer!

I miss the old days where we never met - it was simply a dead drop in some wooded park.

There were no PM's - you just placed a chalk X on light post.

Private sales have no restrictions as long as both parties are legal to own guns. Some people will ask to see a LTCH and a drivers license. Some people also like to lick boots and eat paint chips, but to each their own.

Depending on my Spidey sense I either just do the deal, ask for pink card or walk away.

But I always meet in public places and mainly the same place.
