In Fort Wayne I typically me at the State Police Post parking lot. I also require....(which some don't like) that they text me a pic of their drivers license before meeting. I have had a number of people no show and this commits them a little more. In addition, I know who I am meeting. In person then I require the carry card and have them sign a bill of sale which states the following: BY SIGNING THIS BILL OF SALE I AGREE THAT I HAVE PROVIDED A VALID INDIANA DRIVERS LICENSE AND INDIANA LICENSE TO CARRY. ADDITIONALLY I AGREE THAT I CAN LEGALLY OWN A FIREARM AND MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS TO DO SO.
I recognize this is a hassle for some, but it is my firearm and we play by my rules if you want to buy it. I could careless if people walk away.
I'd rather do an FFL transfer than drop that much info in a private party's hands. Not that a lot can't be tracked down on the internet anyway, etc, but sending any kind of info like that to someone I don't really know is not going to happen (I wouldn't even send a pic of my DL via text to someone I did know for a legit purpose just due to concerns with the insecurity of the transfer mechanism and the lack of control once it does get to their side).
I get it that those are your rules, but I'd never subject myself to that on a private sale, and if it was something that I absolutely had to have and could not get another way and those were the requirements, I'd rather just go to an FFL and do the transfer there. I realize it puts some info into the hands of the FFL, but hopefully he's got a bit more to lose by mishandling my info than a private seller would.
