I just wish people would stop saying “systemic racism”. To quote Ben Shapiro... Either point out a racist policy so we can all work to end it, or stop using vague statements. We’re all against racism, screaming systemic racism doesn’t point out racism, it makes a vague statement with no evidence, therefor no solution.

    That is all.

When did local policing become a federal job? As far as controlling the riots, if Trump had sent in troops, and declared martial law, the screaming would've been deafening from the left (and many on the right as well) and you know that. Look at the reception that federal law enforcement got in Portland. These places where the rioting is the worst don't want Trump to control the riots.

When Trump said he would take care of the problem if the Mayors didn't?

Didn’t we just dismiss the political opinions of pro-athletes along with actors, not even 24 hours ago?

It's really hard to claim Palmer is a pro-athlete at this point. He's basically a warm fuzzy for so much of the country. He is not making a living as a golfer. He's just an old guy who loves this president. Sure it can be ignored, but he seems to be a solid guy who's made an informed decision and backed it up. A bit different than "TRUMP IS THE DEVIL"

Arnie's an icon in my part of the country, a genteel sportsman who would never dream of taking a knee

Heck, he's so old Alpo probably saw him play

He's still an athlete, just not getting paid for it - that's why I left off the 'pro' part
I disagree. I wouldn’t call him an athlete in the loosest definition of the word.

Ok, I’m being harsh on him, technically everyone is an athlete if they participate in a sport, but being an athlete doesn’t make you athletic... I’d take any college QB over Kaepernick on his best day.

Yes, IMO you are too harsh. To be a standout player among all high school players who get on a college roster, which he was by virtue of being a starter, makes him perhaps 1 in 1000 Then to be drafted into the NFL and again become a starter, probably 1 in 1000 again

I think being one in a million among people who play sports qualifies him to be called an athlete

I've got a story about Arnie playing Pine Valley CC in his early days. But I wasn't there. He is/was a generation ahead of me.

    That is all.

There was a time when the social sciences made an attempt to be, well...scientific.

Systemic (sometimes called systematic) racism is a concept with legitimate academic roots that has been badly coopted for the far-left's post-modernist ideology. The concept - as it was originally defined and argued - has merit within an academic sociological framework. The most accessible example that I can think of is redlining, the widely-documented set of practices used to keep blacks in economically distressed ghettos.

Systematic racism can also be used to describe the unintended consequences of otherwise well-intentioned programs. Section 8 housing is a good example of this...a policy initially meant to be a leg-up to poor working mothers ends up being a giant deterrent to marriage within those communities that embraced it...primarily urban ones.

In its original framework, systematic racism isn't a controversial idea, rather its a fairly banal term used to describe measurable and documented social practices.

When I was at university in the early 1990's the stage was already being set for the humanities to fall to the ideological left. Terms which used to be descriptors of academic concepts were being diluted along ideological lines. "Researchers" were becoming celebrities...when their publications comforted the positions of the coastal elites. I started to see "textbooks" pulled from NY times bestsellers list. Opposing voices quietly ignored, agreeable ones softly amplified...

...until we get to where we are now. No objectivity, only pure ideology. Every issue treated to reductio ad absurdum. Every argument straw-manned to death. Brinksmanship and incrementalism the most useful political tools.

People like Shapiro, with their bad-faith "debate" style only make this problem worse.
