Unless I'm widely mistaken. There's no path for the Dems to own the Senate. Which cuts the legs down in gun control.

Your math is off there's 100 Senate seats. 50-48. Lose the two Georgia seats then it's a tie 50-50. VP breaks the tie (Kamala Harris). McConnell should be trying to entice WV Joe Manchin to switch parties.

This is true, while the democrats may pay a price if they pass any gun control like what happened in '94, any legislation pretty much stays. We only got lucky with the AWB due to the sunset not because republicans did anything.
