Spring turkey season opens Wednesday April 21 this year. How many are going out? What shotgun/choke/sighting system/turkey loads are you using?

I changed things up this spring. I added a new Carlson`s BIP extended 0.655 choke and patterned it in my Browning BPS NWTF 12 gauge, with the 3" Federal 3rd Degree. The Federal 3rd Degree is 5,6, and 7 shot, with the #7 shot being TSS. I shot out to 50 yards and had a great killing pattern even out to 50. My buddy said that at 20 yards it would have decapitated the turkey. I bought a Tru-Glo Gobble Stopper red-dot to put on my turkey gun, but I`m waiting for Optics Planet to finally get the AimTech shotgun saddle in, so I can mount this. In the meantime, I`ll be using the Hi-Viz, Tri-Viv sighting system I`ve used for years.

I won`t get out probably until the second week of season, and I`ve scheduled April 28, 29, and 30th off work to hunt.

Best of luck to any going out, and I hope you`ll stop and comment on your hunting set up and where you`ll be hunting.

Out now with my boy, bout shook hands with one this morning.

Heard a bunch this morning, timber chicken is making a comeback in my neck of the woods.

I will be out on Wednesday, supposed to snow.
I believe what they say about a "bad" day of hunting being way better than a good day at work. Wish I was gonna be out in the snow Wednesday.

Oh, but hey, good luck and I hope your son whacks a good one!

Good luck to all! I've never hunted them down here in Indiana. I have my property in Michigan that's crawling with them but I seldom go up to hunt them. Never found good access here.

I don't use anything fancy in the gun department. Remington 870 Express with a bead sight. I have a HS Strut Undertaker chose with Winchester Super X #5s. I do plan on switching to Longbeard XR when I run out of the current shells. My extra gun for anyone else I take us a Tristar Viper youth in 20ga. I did start shooting the XRs in this last year.

I patterned my Mossberg 500 w/turkey choke the other day. I have placed a Vortex Venom on a saddle. My right(dominant) eye has had a stroke of some kind and I was looking for a crutch to get me past it. It seems to help quite a bit. I will be in the hills of Lawrence Co on Wednesday.

It sounds like it`s going to be a chilly one Wednesday, but the turkey`s will be there! Good luck buddy, I hope you keep us posted as to how you do!

I dropped one at 71yds a couple years back with a Benelli Super Black Eagle, Winchester XR 3.5" & a Jeb's choke tube. We were in a blind in the middle of a huge field and I didn't have anything to use as a reference or I'd not have taken the shot. He came a couple hundred hards toward our decoys and just stopped at 71yds and stood there gobbling once in awhile but wouldn't come closer. It was raining hard enough that we couldn't hear his gobble at that distance. Not sure what I hit but he was far from dead when I got to him, we had a pretty healthy wrestling match when I grabbed his neck.

I turkey hunt in WI. Going the weekend of 5/1. t use my 20ga O/U loaded with 5 shot, same thing I use for pheasants most of the time. Full choke in first barrel. Second barrel doesn't matter.

I got a carlson this year as well for my supernova. Really nice pattern with it out to 50yds shooting long beard XR 3 1/2". My property doesnt allow for a much further shot than that. Ill be out Satruday and Sunday! GOBBLE GOBBLE

Anyone getting out tomorrow to turkey hunt, best of luck, be safe, and come back here to report on what you see and hear and kill.

Back in, 2-3 inches of heavy wet snow on top of ice. Trees and brush bent over and many split, did not hear much of anything all morning. No crows, grey squirrels, woodpeckers or other birds. Didn't even see small birds moving around at daylight, but tomorrow is another day.

Youngest daughter (32 years old now!) got hers at 7:30 this morning. New 410 with rail and choke. One and done. She and I used to skip school each opening morning of turkey season. Great times and memories. We alternated years of who got to shoot first. 410 was purchased for their daughter a kindergartener who is ready to hunt turkeys.
