I find two of our Indiana towns facinating to compare, although I know one better than the other, I have worked in both.

    Anderson vs. Columbus

Both were industrial towns with GM and Cummins being the big employers. But Columbus has survived so much better, and even before Anderson fell to current lows it never had the cache Columbus did.

    Why?

IMO, Because the owners lived in Columbus, simple as that, folks with a stake made their communities stronger and better. Nobody with power lived in Anderson, just a series of GM executives climbing the corporate ladder praying to get back to Detroit with wives that looked down their nose at the locals.

This shows the importance of community and we are living with the negative aspects of mega companies and no one important from them even lives in the state. That all our institutions are mostly controlled by coastal elites is literally killing our country and way of life...

(BTW this is not new thinking for me I noticed the difference in the towns 30 years ago and now it seems to apply to an even larger area.)

The axe will fall on Columbus, sooner or later, just like every plant town. The day will come when, yes, even Cummins will pack up and depart for cheaper pastures. They've been luckier than most, but one day it will happen.

In the late seventies, I tried to be a banker. Did my job, learned different aspects, took evening courses and did well. It was a bad fit to my personality and I got out.

I did learn something from an officer of Gary National. They were huge back then. He was against the legal push to allow banking across county lines and across State lines. He said when that happened many local banks would stop investing in the local economies. The next step would be huge corporations sucking up controlling interest on the locally owned banks. Then they would regulate investment to wall street and the international investments. The local economies would suffer and the big power brokers would start stealing money. At that point there is nothing you can do about it. He also thought banks should not invest in the stock market.

I think old Jim was right. Look at the big crooked outfits that are in charge of our money. Think of the Merrill Lynch thieves. Think about Lehman bros. When the man making decisions had an office in town, if he did something crooked, he could be arrested. You could walk into his office and punch him. That keeps people accountable. If your savings disappears today, you don't even know what state to go and start looking for the crook. You don't even have a name to start your search.

That will be in the chapter where the country dies...

It also demonstrates that after the local control dies the business is ran differently, the topic of this thread...

So what happens if a customer picks up something like a club and starts beating the thieves?

I wouldn't resort to stealing, that's for sure.
I am the same way, but I am not looking forward to being forced to kill people who come to harm me so they can steal from me. That is a complete collision of my views and the reality of a society in collapse. Desperate people do desperate things.

Survival of the fittest is a really ugly reality. I really hope it does not come to that.

Well I'd bet the farm that those people in the video aren't stealing because they are just trying to take care of their families. And I'd damn sure bet it's not because they lost their jobs. :lmfao:

Until we hold these **** bags accountable it will only get closer to you realizing your fears.

Here's what the death of a nation looks like.

damn. I know exactly where that is; very close to where we used to live on the NW side of Chicago. Very Polish area. That guy talking looked Polish to me so I looked it up - sure enough, our old stomping grounds. The thieves however... didn’t look like their Babcia was cooking up a batch of pierogis at home.

Right across the street from a big mall too, so plenty of police I’d think - and right around the corner from the police station.

I've been thinking about this. I haven't had time to make it to the range for awhile, and I have plenty of ammo. I could use some live fire practice. ;) Performing a public service, getting "range time" without leaving home... I'm not seeing a downside.
