I picked up an older Remington 700 in .30-06.

I am expecting it will be used primarily for hunting... maybe some target shooting.

What do folks suggest I consider for a scope?

I broke down last year and bought my first Vortex scope.
After receiving it and shooting with it the first time, I ordered my second.
I had no idea what I was missing.
    I have other scopes.
I own Simmons, and Burris, and Leupold, and Red field, and Tasco.

None of the above hold a candle to the Vortex.
    The clarity is amazing.

I never did understand why a hunter gets hyped up on lens clarity and all that when I want my scope built like a tank first and then give me a good enough glass. Reliability is everything. My Leupolds and Burris do just that. Have for over 50 years for me. Never had to send one in. Ever. Horseback, 4 wheelers, rain, snow. Even dropped one down a flight of stairs once on my 22-250. But hey, you do you.

The most important thing is that the turret adjustments are repeatable and accurate.

SWFA and Arken do exceptionally well at this. They're also bomb proof, but arken is considerably better with its glass.

There`s a big difference in the quality of the glass, so I`d suggest getting your eye to as many brands of scopes as you can. Outside of that, I believe in a quality product and a great warranty. Leupold has been all of that for me. Leupold doesn't make a 3x9 anymore, it`s a 3.5x10, and when I had to send my 15 year old scope to them because it wouldn`t shoot properly, that`s what they sent me, a $500 scope as a replacement. That`s a warranty that keeps me coming back to Leupold.
