I have a silicone ring. After a couple near attempts at de-gloving my finger while wearing the gold band and having it bug me doing pull-ups and other work, I put the gold one in my safe.

I'll replace the silicone ring when it starts to tear, usually every 2 years or so.

My wife keeps telling me she wants me to get a “ring” tattooed on my finger. She seems to think the whole “pilot thing” will have women crawling all over me if I ever fly tours, but it hasn’t happened yet, so… :dunno: :abused:

But a silicone ring is genius! I also do a lot of things that could result in a de-gloving, so I just take the ring off a lot before any of those activities. A silicone stand-in would be a lot easier, so thanks for that idea!

Same. I was lucky my hand was wet because the Ortho surgeon I saw was shocked when my story was told to her by her nurse before my visit. "Wait. he still has his finger? How?!?!?" Lucky for me I didnt break the skin and only severly scrambled stuff under the skin that caused scar tissue at the joint so that I cant put that ring on again because my knuckle is now 2 sizes larger. No surgery needed.

So I also do the silicone ring thing.

"I just hope my wife gets what the guns are worth, not what I told her I paid for them." LOL

One thing I forget. Maybe I can help my fellow silicone wearers out.

If you are going to do something stinky, like get gas or other nasty stuff on your hands, take your ring off. Silicone rings hold odors something fierce. Especially Gojo hand cleaner.

I had my first wedding ring all of about a day and a half. I lost it throwing a cast net in the Gulf of Mexico on our honeymoon. I bought a replacement and don't wear it when I'm doing anything where I might possibly lose it again.

I just about lost my initial ring in the Caribbean sea just off the coast of our resort in Punta Cana, DR.

I just about lost my 2nd ring in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Hilo, Hawaii.

I'm on at least my 3rd ring. Not sure how much skinnier my fingers can get.
You know, "glass" diamond earrings, and an aluminum frying pan...

I have a shovel you can have. Better to dig your own hole so that your carcass won't be dug up by the coyotes.

Talk about death wish! I thought getting "to small" of a ring was going to be my demise.
    Not glass. White Sapphire!

Even that size Moisssanite rings were too rich for the budget.

Update: After seeing some clearance prices on some other "real" diamond jewelry the other day - my wife said "I hate to know how much you've spent on my stuff."

"What - your big square stoned earrings?"

    - Yes -

    $5-6 thousand.

One day I may break the news to her.

I think the 10 year mark was when I told the wife about her rings.

Jewelry store in Valpo was being liquidated by a law firm after the owner basically went nuts and walked away. Everything was being sold at cost or less just to get it gone :alright:

Bought her rings and then went down the street and spent more than double their cost on a new guitar

I considered the tattoo but an artist I talked to wasn't too crazy about them. He says it's hard to keep ink there. My son and DIL have had to have theirs touched up several times.

I'm happy with the silicone. Plus I can change it up; different colors, widths, etc.

If you ever wonder how long a wedding and engagement ring will last if it is worn all-day every day during all kinds of work, it about 30 years. My wife and I spent our 30th anniversary picking out new rings for her (my idea)....and I was along, not for my opinion (understandably), but for my wallet.

My basically plain gold band? Going strong.
We both outgrew ours years ago and never resized or replaced them. Meh.

My theory is that tattooing a wedding ring is almost as bad as tattooing their name on you.

Wear a silicone wedding ring all the time. Original gold one is locked away and only wear it on special occasions.

My wife belives that killing a husband by stabbing is a normal part of being married. If I ever go missing, call the police.

Same. After almost degloving my ring finger, I cant wear a metal one due to scar tissue on my knuckle. and for about 15 minutes I tried wearing it on my right hand. It was mentally too uncomfortable. Saco Band rings are awesome and really hold up.

Just remove them before doing anything REALLY nasty like working with gear oil, etc. They hold smells. Like if you use Goop hand cleaner, your ring will reek of oranges for a week or two.

How do you think it would've gone for me if I'd bought her jeans that were way too big?

I *knew* I didn't know her size. And I just *knew* that I'd get it wrong if I even attempted to get close. So instead of getting her something too big and insulting her - even inadvertently - I opted to err on the comically too small side of things. So she can exchange them for what it is she can truly wear!
