anybody do this? Thinking of building a frame to hold them vertically but before I invent the wheel, I was wondering if anyone here hauls these in their truck and may have a picture of their setup?

I'm not sure, but there may be transportation regulations for tanks of that size. Might be worth looking into.

This. If you can, and you arent going to use them while in the bed, it might be safer to transport them on their side.

I fill 4 100lbers up at a time, I stand them up and ratchet strap them in. I believe you have to have then vertical when transporting. Like all the bottles on a welding supply or gas delivery truck does.
If its cool outside one place will fill them while in my truck strapped down.

    Edit.

Can you haul a 100 lb propane tank on its side?

Sure. It’ll roll around if you don’t lash it down securely. That’s mostly a problem for other cargo, animals or people in your vehicle, since the valve is pretty well protected. Not completely protected, though, and in a freak accident, an unsecured tank could roll and hit some object just wrong and shear off the valve. Then things get really exciting as the propane vents out, possibly much of it as a liquid. (If upright and suddenly vented, after a few gallons of liquid propane have flashed to vapor, the remaining liquid will be so cold as to not be under much pressure.)

I have one of these. Was thinking of loading 1-4 of them in it, strapping the cage and the cylinders against the tailgate. That way I can get them in and out easily.

Before I went down that path, I just wanted to see other ideas.

I saw the Wood frame idea and also the trailer winch. pretty ingenious stuff.

Does look like it would be handy to have to clean gutters?

    Yes. and trim trees.

I have forks on my tractor.

I had a shingle roof and I was used to just climbing on the roof and cleaning gutters etc.

Then I put on a metal roof.

The first time I put a knee down which shifted my weight from my boot soles to denim and started to slide to the edge.....

Magically next year, that lift showed up :)

But it beats using pole saws for trimming low branches too.
