Don't want to discourage you in your writing, but you couldn't hold my interest. For one thing, as a college student or graduate, Andrew's attitude would likely not be one of thinking that America is the greatest country in the world; colleges teach the opposite. If he were smart enough to not absorb the anti-American prejudice in college, he would likely be informed enough to not have the anti-gun prejudice he evidently displays. Fair writing otherwise, but in my experience, a person scoffs, he does not get involved in "scoffing" (I know that's being really picky, but it affects the way the sentence reads to me and makes it less believable).
