I'm a little dissapointed in this knife

:yesway: Agreed. As for the knife, I think it's great. I love the uncommon qualities Micarta often takes on when you polish it up with a super high grit. I went up to 800 then buffed with compound on my first knife. It was homemade blue jean laminate (forgot to take pictures and post...

      Kudos for CRKT

You know, I was a big fan of CRKT as a teenager. I loved my first CRKT, but all I really did was flip it open when I was bored and open boxes with it. After I started EDCing my CRKT and actually using it I became very disenchanted with their company (I have owned 3 thus far). I can't...

      A Few Updates:

I take the stance that if a hobby is worth turning into a business, DO IT... But find a new hobby before it loses its joy.

UPDATE....Hawk forge fail, house fire success

Man that sucks. At least it was only licked though. I'm going to re-evaluate my heat treat setup just for good measure because of this.

      Let's see your leather.

I'm in love with that 1911 holster. I love all of your leather, Lagrange, but those holsters are amazing.

      Lets build a knife

I think it's just one of those things that you don't get it... unless you get it. I live in an apartment... I can't wait for the day I can throw $1k on a nasty custom chopper.

First fixed blade - Spyderco Mule

      I dig it.

Hammer forge hawk head!,or FORGET GET ABOUT IT??

I think you could get a forge for as much as you could make one. They are cheap, I saw one bundled with a blacksmith drill press on craigslist a few weeks back for like $250. You'll spend more on an anvil, hammers, and tools than you will on your forge. Basically they look like shallow sinks...

Hammer forge hawk head!,or FORGET GET ABOUT IT??

From my little bit of knowledge: no probably don't water quench it. You need to figure out what kind of metal it is, but my guess is you'll be using a fast oil for the final heat treat. But I don't think (I am speaking far from my comfort zone right now, forgive me) you will be quenching it...

Hammer forge hawk head!,or FORGET GET ABOUT IT??

What's your starting point? Do you have any blacksmithing tools, have you Youtubed this at all? I haven't done any forging but I have done my share of internet investigation on the topic. If you're looking for a starting point I can provide that much, but other than that I am useless. But be...

Knifemakers: knifemaking tip of the day!

Nonsense jbombelli, you have to put your blood into the bevel of a good knife! Good tip, Cubby. Keep em coming. One thing I've learned doing my first few: Don't be afraid of the dunk bucket! I let my first one get wayyyy too hot.

      Water Stones?

Chosera is supposed to be the best. I have a 1000 grit that I may part with cheaply. I've decided that while I'd like to do stone sharpening eventually, for now it makes sense for me to just use a 1x30 sander. Check out a guy named Virtuovice on Youtube, he's from Japan and he breaks down the...
