      Frustrated Garand owner

      First off thanks for all the advice and humor. I took a small piece of oak and a 4lb hammer to the garand today and persuaded the gas block off the barrell. Some slight corrosion there, cleaned it off, oiled it well, and had to use a hammer to put it back into place for the last 1/2 inch or so...

      I recently purchased a Rack Grade Plus rifle from the CMP. It looks good overall and I was breaking it down for cleaning on Saturday and the gas tube will not come off. I took off the gas port screw and tried to gently tap it with a rubber mallet, but nothing. My question is how hard do I try...
