What is the most reliable handgun for Self Defense under $400

I am a really big fun of Walther. My wife carried CCP for a while and used it in few multi-day courses - with this one you learn to clear malfunctions pretty fast, it's really "sticky" while new. Gets better after 1-2k 124 gr ball. Self defense rounds (Speer 124gr HPs) never got it to...

      Best 1911 magazine

I use only WC ones. Have few which are probably 10y old (second hand) and thousands rounds through - still going strong, no problems with the spring, follower or bottom plate (dropped on rocks/concrete even when full). Those things are almost immortal and reasonably priced.

      Ruger Just Stop

Honestly, I would love something like https://staccato2011.com/handguns/staccato-xc/ But price range is a bit outside of my reach (for non-collectables) for now. Problem with bunch of companies - they don't bring anything new/better to the model range, while charging more.

Glued ejector removal on Springfield Milspec

Not all of them it seems. This particular one has glued ejector - image a bit blurry, but there are clearly no pin:

Glued ejector removal on Springfield Milspec

So, I got a Springfield 1911 i've decided to rebuild (full internals/bluing/etc), out of boredom mainly, and I am having some problems with it. Even though some things are simple to work through (special front sight peg size/firing pin hole diameter/trigger thickness), I've never dealt with...

      Ruger Just Stop

I don't have any Ruger's 1911 as I started to build my own (Caspian + WC parts, so build are over $1k in general) a bit back, but $1k for a Ruger does sound a bit over what it should be. Inflation I guess (like same car with new model year will be 1k+ higher than exactly same one previous year)?

      WTB: Hudson H9 threaded barrel

Got this neat little technological "marvel" at an estate sale recently (quite well used, 1 mag only/etc), acquired some parts/accessories (well, reliability issues expected as I plan to actually use it). Interested in getting threaded barrel for it.
