I think he said one guy with a 90 minute commute due to traffic quit rather than lose 3 hours of day commuting through ridiculous traffic.
That was about what my commute was when I went to the office. 75 minutes was normal because I went in and left early. It went up quickly if there was any kind of disruption though.

When I lived in Minnesota, my wife and I lived in a remote area. We both worked in a small town about 20 minutes away, but were paid very poorly. We both took jobs in the twin cities, forcing me to drive an hour each way and the wife to drive 75 - 90 minutes each way. We both hated it and ended up moving closer to our jobs after a little over a year. I don't even like a commute when it's 15 - 30 minutes and loathed driving that much. WFH is perfect for me as the biggest benefit is not having to deal with the commute.

a few of my teammates were spread across the country and thus forced to resign. what’s frustrating is this role was remote even before covid, so we wonder how much of it is ‘voluntary workforce reduction’ and such

My wife was afraid once the covid scare was over they would end her WFH gig. So far, so good. They’ve even repurposed the office space her team used in that building. Honestly, if they told her she had to start going back in, I think she would go ahead and retire.

I must be weird. I actually prefer the office.
I do too, Although, parts of my job pretty much require me to be on site. Even if I was offered to work remotely, I think I would still come in. I like to be around co workers and be social, and I also like to be able to physically leave my work and go home. I need to keep the two separated. If I worked from home I feel like it would always be on my mind.

We had gone back to one day a week in the office a couple of months ago. Probably 90% of people hated it, myself included. Starting January 15th, we start going in 2 days a week. I will hate it twice as much. Can't stand being in the office. I don't socialize and it irritates the crap out of me when people hang out near my cube shooting the breeze. I'd say my productivity in the office is only about 70-75% of what it is from home.

I've never had a problem keeping my work and personal life separate. I even spend a ton of time in my home office, on my personal laptop (like right now). Work laptop was shut down at quitting time and I'm not booting it up until tomorrow morning for another day. Helps that my role is not operations based, so it's exceedingly rare to be needed outside of work hours.

    ...What is ‘coffee badging’?

As some employees are being called back to the office, many are subtly protesting by returning to the office for as little time as possible, Frank Weishaupt, CEO of Owl Labs in Boston, told FOX Business.

“Coffee badging is when employees show up to the office for enough time to have a cup of coffee, show their face and get a ‘badge swipe’ — then go home to do the rest of their work,” said Weishaupt....
    I like that.

Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to do that in a lounge chair.

Maybe if you rode a train. Can't plan a day when you have to drive. Need to concentrate on not getting hit by some idiot.

Got your point, …..planning begins in the mind was mine. What meetings, appointments, how to coordinate them. Coffee n thought, while watching out for 17 year old high school kids driving. Just a thought from a long time commuter. Didn’t want argue just give other point of view.

There are rumblings at my wife’s work that the WFH train might be running out of steam. Most managers simply can’t overcome the need to actively “manage” people. And you can’t “manage” them if they’re not close at hand.
