      Frustrated Garand owner

He may not have his front sight screw tightened down .

Yes, have seen many. . They were for undersized barrels, if you put one on a normal size barrel it will be impossible to remove unless sight screw is loosened first.

It can have a cut gas cylinder without undersized WWII barrel. Many match shooters use these today for the tight fit

OP, do you have a saw cut gas cylinder? If so you need to remove the front sight first. Google "garand saw cut gas cylinder" to see a picture of what I am talking about

Moose, you are probably thinking of a mallet used to close trigger guard?

Actually garand gas cylinders were pressed on when originally assembled

M1 Garand wont go into safety

Have you completely disassembled the rifle, cleaned and properly greased it as suggested by CMP? If not you need to do so. Its not unusual for this to happen on a dry ungreased garand

      M1 Garand work

Anyone who installs a barrel also finish reams to proper headspace, thats just part of the job. Shuffs does very good work, I highly recommend him

      CMP 1911 Update

Of course they are looking to make a profit, and why shouldnt they?? This is how they fund all their programs. I saw squeeze every single penny they can out of them so they can continue to do what they were organized to do. They were not started so they could supply you with cheap firearms...

      Springfield M1 garand

That is a clue to your rifle possibly being a NM

      Springfield M1 garand

To the OP: Type I NM garand will have the serial number written in the stock channel. Remove the stock and check there, if serial is present its another clue to being a NM
    12. O

      Springfield M1 garand

pony up the $25 and send a request to CMP. They may or may not have any info on it
    13. O

      Springfield M1 garand

OK guys its very simple. If the only part on the rifle that is NM is the barrel it is no longer a NM rifle, if it ever was. You can wish and hope all day but facts are facts The bolt drawing number means nothing For a 6 mil NM the stock may or may not be bedded, gas cylinder stamped NM rear...

      Springfield M1 garand

but the OP's rifle is not a authentic NM

      Springfield M1 garand

DCM didnt have a grading system, you got what they sent you and often took up to a year. Some would get a rifle that was like new the next guy a very worn rifle, both paid the same price From your posts I dont think you have a grasp on the grades and what they mean
    16. O

      Springfield M1 garand

DCM never had a grading system, it started with CMP. I understand how the grading system works. The OP's rifle cant be a collector or correct grade as the only NM part is the barrel
    17. O

      Springfield M1 garand

What I meant to say was the NM barrrel does not increase the value over any other 6 mil garand. Its $25 not $75 for CMP to do a serial search to see if they sold it. CMP paperwork triple the value??? How many you want to buy, I'll sell you mine CMP just sold a bunch of 6 mils, I beleive the...

      Springfield M1 garand

Zero You can send a request to CMP with $25 and they will tell you if they ever sold it Bottom line, it may have been a NM at one time, if it only has NM barrel its just a Garand wth a NM barrel. No more desireable than any other rifle. CMP just sold a bunch of 6 mils, many of them came with NM...

      Springfield M1 garand

Not sure what you mean by that. The only serial number on a Garand is on the receiver heel. If there are no other NM parts your rifle is just a Garand with a NM barrel. May have been a NM at one time , no more desrireable than any other garand. Its not that unusual to find Garands that only NM...
