I bought a Colt series 80 Mark IV Government, want more info about it.

I bought a Colt series 80 Mark IV government 45 ACP. Looking up the serial number on the Colt web site says it was made in 1986. It appears to be stainless steel and brushed stainless steel and has rubber grips. Is there a way for me to find out more about this particular model? I'm curious...

      Testing my JHP carry ammo.

I thought I could do a Paul Harrel and test my carry ammo. I went to the range and setup four one gallon milk jugs full of water in a row. I put them on a board at an angle so I could easily shoot through all of them. I taped a terry cloth shop rag folded to get four layers on the first jug...

Low light training class taken, now have several questions.

I took a 4.5 hour low light training class last night, Line Of Defense by Len Halascsak at Linden Conservation Club just north of Linden, Indiana. I learned there is self defense ammo made for short barreled pistols. I had 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr JHP Fiocchi. With my S & W M&P9 Shield 2.0...

Testing ammo for EDC in my new S&W Shield 2.0 9mm.

Just bought a S&W Shield 2.0 in 9mm. This gun is fun to shoot! Have run 150 rounds of Federal FMJ (range ammo) through it so far. Not a single issue other than the magazines (7 & 8) could only get 5 in at first. After 150 rounds getting 6 & 7 into them now. Anyway, your thoughts on testing...

Take a person to the range for the first time.

A coworker has expressed interest in going to the range with me and shooting for the first time. I'm conflicted because I don't know him well and work with the person, but I would like to help someone that shows interest. How do you size up someone who is interested before you invite them to...

      Shooting glasses

I do, had them set the focus at 24". They also work great when I use my circular saw, saber saw and other power tools.

      Shotgun for skeet and trap.

Not having shot a shotgun and not hardly ever seen skeet and trap being shot I got invited to a trap and skeet shooting event. What kind of shotgun does one use for this? I was told to bring shells with steel shot too. I assume I do not need the $2,500 Browning Citori! :-)

      Top Guns in Terre Haute.

Visited Top Guns in Terre Haute this last Saturday. First time there. Was impressed by the size and the selection. Very clean store, well laid out and well lighted. Even the German Shepherd that was laying around fit right in! :-) All the staff were quite helpful and very available. I was...

      Saw GUN LWYR on I-465.

Saw a black Cadillac on Sunday on I-465 near Meridian with the license plate "GUN LWYR". Figured it had to be an INGO member.

Live fire results after dry firing.

I started dry firing 3-4 nights a week about 3 weeks ago. Did about 100 trigger pulls each time with a G-sight laser and my cell phone to record the hit locations. Started at 4 yards and my left hand dominant shooting was putting my shots high and right, same as live fire. After a couple...

Senate Bill 216, Storage of firearms at public venues.

Have any of you read about this bill? https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2018/bills/senate/216#digest-heading I take it that venues cannot stop you from bringing in your gun if you can carry. Or they must provide a secure storage system for guns. What is your take on this?

Are compact/sub compact guns really inaccurate?

From all that I've been told the fired bullet leaves the barrel before recoil has a chance to divert its path. This leads me to believe any gun fired correctly should hit what it is aimed at. After seeing Jerry Miculek (sp?) hit a target 100 yards away with something smaller than full size...

Fancy and dangerous police target shooting from the 1930's.

This video made me cringe at times, a police target shooting demonstration recording. https://youtu.be/jDP8BRSEjrA Tim.

The mechanics of shooting, I'm not getting better.

I started shooting this last May, first 2 guns were rentals, S&W Victory .22lr (450 rounds) and Browning Buckmark .22lr (1,900 rounds). In September I bought my first gun, a Browning 1911-380 (600 rounds). It fits my hand very well and I enjoy shooting it. Here are my bullseye (2")...

Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite and customer service.

I bought a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite a few weeks ago. First time shooting it I am hitting 6" low at 7 yards. It has an Allen bolt to adjust the rear sights. I used the Customer Service web page to ask what size wrench is needed. They say they reply in 3 business days. About 2 weeks later...

Sighting in a handgun (or rifle), what is the rule of thumb?

The sights make a straight line out to infinity, the bullet path after leaving the barrel is ballistic trajectory. Since there is a bit of separation (vertically) from the sights to the barrel centerline the two are not parallel. If the sight line is a level line, then the barrel would send...

Bigger guns getting easier to handle.

Started shooting this May with .22lr target pistols. August I shot 50 rounds with a Glock 19, recoil was not fun, trigger pinched my finger. Bought a Browning 1911-380 a month ago, shot 200 rounds so far through it. Recoil is significantly more than the .22lr's, but not bad. This last...

Did a few minutes on a Milo Range.

After the "Refuse to be a victim" seminar our instructor took us to the Milo Range the sheriff's office has and let us try it out for a few minutes. I got the two bad guys coming into the retail store without shooting other shoppers or the clerk. In the active shooter scenario I did NOT shoot...

Buying a pistol from out of state dealer via the web.

I did my research, watched a lot of youtubes, found the pistol at shows to get hands on, feels really good. Decided I wanted one and started looking. Going to get the high end variant of the model I want, so I get exactly what I want. Local dealers don't have it, cannot even order it through...
