Ok, so I have been really thinking and acting about my preparedness for SHTF.
I have mixed feelings about the gold/silver thing. I realize the paper dollar could easily crumble but what good is a piece of precious metal going to do anyone? I would think ammo, liqour, cigerettes kinda trrading...
Since apparently almost everyone on this board values gold so much - a metal which cannot be used for anything practical - I have a direct question for you: how much gold would I have to have for you to trade me your wife permanently?
Some cash on hand is a good idea for SHTF(if you have some). But what if the SHTF IS the Dollar imploding? Besides barter, what would become the "new currency"? Real silver, gold coins? Gold jewelry? Fer-Fal(?), in Argentina posted he wished he collected gold rings to use this way. What do you think?

I have a couple 10 oz silver bars that I would like to trade into something a little more "portable". I would like to swap them in for 1 oz rounds, is there anywhere on the north side of Indy I can do that?
Just curious, if someone were to buy gold, something like the Canadian Maple Leafs or the South African Krugerrands, where would they buy them?
Specifically in Lake County or Porter County.
It is interesting to look at history, and examine what our presidents have been allowed to get away with in the past. Franklin Delano Roosevelt forcibly confiscated the gold privately held by citizens in 1933, with penalty of 10 years in prison for non-compliance.

I'm looking at putting a little of my cash into silver coins to have as a form of emergency currency. I've been looking at online distributors but I was wondering if I'd be better off trying to find a local shop and buy from them. Anybody got sage advice for me?
:)
I see plenty of threads about preparedness as it applies to disasters coming as a direct result of natural or human events, but I have not seen anything on fiscal preparedness.
How many here are in debt? How many live paycheck-to-paycheck? Does anyone have a cushion of several months of income...
Has anyone done any research into this? When the SHTF and the dollar losses all it's value I would like to have some gold on had (not in a portfolio or some safety box at location xyz) in case I need to trade for ther things. In addition having some gold at least keeps my "savings" safe (to a...

Yes!! there is gold in Indiana! I am President of Central Indiana Gold Prospectors Association of America.:patriot:

I'm thinking about buying some. Yeah, I know it's high at the moment, but I talked myself out of buying gold at $685/oz when it was selling at ~$750 spot, and am regretting it today, obviously. Now I'm getting the feeling that I had then that now's a good time, regardless of its peaking.
Anyone...
I'm nowhere close to being an expert on gold but I do have a decent understanding of the gold standard. Back from the beginning of time, people used gold for currency. It doesn't rust or corrode. I'm guessing the fact that it is soft made it easier to divide up as well. Fast forward several...
