Went to Moe's Irish pub in Noblesville for lunch. Manager opened the door for us, and escorted us to a seat. Was friendly and as seating us said "I assume you have a license for the gun..."

I replied that I did, and he stated that he figured, he just asks so he can tell any staff that runs to him so he can say "I already know, and it's perfectly legal."

    That's awesome in my book!

    (the food was great too)

I like Moe's, but their bartender needs to learn the correct way to make a black and tan.

I like it. We need more people like him. He saw something that he didn't have a problem with, but knew that others would, and immediately got the information he needed to be sure that you wouldn't be hassled, and he did it in a way that wasn't obtrusive or bothersome to you.

I'm not drinking today, but I love a black and tan. How did he/she mess it up? Wrong beer? Not float it right? ( just curious)

The beer is right (in fact, they do several types: black and tan, half and half, etc.) but every time I've ordered one, they've been almost completely mixed. I think the bartender doesn't understand how to pour the stout so it floats.

Gotcha. It took me a while to get the hang of it when I was bartending. I can do it as long as I have a spoon.

In a TRUE Irish pub, calling it a Black and Tan may get a gun pulled on you! They do not have fond memories of the "Black and Tan" paramilitaries sent by England to Ireland to put down the Irish Republicans. Hopefully this might save someone getting their drink thrown in their face or worse...

Yes, I was careful not to order one in Ireland. I stuck with mostly Smithwick's when I was there. A lot of it. A LOT of it. I was there for St Patrick's day.

What do they call a black and tan in Ireland?

They don't. Nobody drinks them there, as far as I could tell. I'm guessing it puts too much time between ordering the beer and getting it down your gullet. We got back to our hotel one night at 11PM and had to beat on the door until the landlord woke up and unlocked it for us. Then opened the little hotel bar and proceeded to drink us under the table until well past 5am. They do NOT mess around when it comes to drinking. In the little village we stayed in, there were something like 22 pubs, and only one restaurant. I think the village only had a population of like 5000.
