Osceola News-Gazette - Official community newspaper of Kissimmee, Osceola County including Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Celebration, Poinciana, Harmony and surrounding areas

Glenn, a 6-year old autistic boy, invited his entire class to his birthday party. Apparently, nobody showed up.

“From the minute he woke up that day he wanted to know how many minutes until his friends came. None of the kids’ parents RSVP’d, but I was still holding on to the hope that some of them would show up. It never crossed my mind that it would be zero,”his mom, Ashlee Buratti said.

Word got out on Facebook, and the response was pretty incredible. Not only did some local families and kids come to celebrate with him (even bringing gifts), but members the local Sheriff and Fire departments showed up as well.

Apparently the Sheriff's Department even sent a helicopter to do a fly-by for him.

    Incredible story.

I have been a part of several last minute birthday part flops, where a panicking parent calls the firehouse and asks if there is anything we can do. I think its more fun for us than it is the kids most of the time.

It doesn't happen often, but yes we do. Tricking the public into thinking that WE are the hero's is a full time business.

I would love to do that. Too bad there aren't many kid (or kid appropriate) parties on late shift.
