Like many things, you can get crappy reliability in either gun.

My stock 10/22 and my stock M&P 15-22 are just about equally reliable with the same ammo.

While some folks may buy the 15-22 because it looks cool, there are many of us who buy them because the controls are identical to an AR15 and it makes for much cheaper training while retaining the body memory that is important for good riflery.

This is exactly why I bought a 15-22. I'm really glad I did too, since I got a membership @ MCF&G I can use the 15-22 to train whereas I would not be able to with a 5.56/.223 rifle.

The only times I've had issues with reliability are when other people loaded mags for me. You really have to pay attention to how the mags are loaded or you will get FTF's.

I've yet to get a FTE or double feed.

IMO you can't go wrong either way. Ive shot a riflemans score with a 10-22, and Ive personally seen someone shoot a riflemans score with a 15-22.

So, if it were me, I would get both! ;)

Nordic Components have the best AR options for 10/22 going, IMO.

The first is the 10/22 Chassis system - Nordic Components AR22 Conversion Kit Ruger 10/22 22 Long Rifle Matte - MidwayUSA The famous 10/22 reliability with an AR stock, grip, and fore end. If you already have a beater 10/22 on hand, this is a great option.

The other option is Nordic's dedicated 22 LR upper. NC22 .22LR Complete Upper - 16" Black, Mid Hand Guard What makes this different is their bolt system and barrel. If you already have an AR, and don't want to go through the hassle of doing a set of paperwork for another gun, but need a training upper, this is the ticket. Made by shooters for shooters.

Don't rule out the Sig 522! I went to HCF&G and shot one with someone who owns all 3 - 10/22, M&P 15-22, and sig 522. He's a member here and wish he would chime in.

He likes the 10/22, and he likes the 15-22. He LOVES the 522. It takes black dog magazines and it reliable and accurate. I just bought one on GA that is NIB with 2 mags for $329 shipped. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm getting rimfire crazy.

My whole want stemmed from buying a can. Both the 15-22 (some models) and 522 come with threaded barrels. Ruger is now making a 10/22 tactical that has a threaded barrel.

    I say buy a 10/22 AND a 15-22 or 522. I have both a 10/22 and 522.

The 10-22 is the standard that all semi 22lr's are judged by for reliability. There's a reason for that.

However, there's nothing to say that a 15-22 won't be just as good after it's had time to prove itself. I like the S&W 22 more than the colt 22's. Colt sold their name to be used and the 22lr rifles are junk. I watched a shooting show with the Pro making incredible shots with a 15-22.

This guy does pretty decent reviews on equipment. I haven't seen this but you can check it out if you want: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiPgTlKYikM]YouTube - S&W 15-22: "Sheep in Wolf's Clothing" by Nutnfancy[/ame]

    Butler Creek folding stock

I'm thinking about getting a folding stock for my 10-22 like what you've got. Is yours a true folding stock?

The only place I've found the true folding stocks lately has been cabelas and they're close to $100.

I had the Butler Creek side folder and it was ok but when ATI came out with the Strikeforce stock the BC had to go. The ATI stock folds to the side, collapses, has an adjustable cheek comb and rails on the forearm.:twocents:

Yeah That's what I hear. I guess I'll have to start looking. Then the mods begin! I got both also so the wife can shoot with me and have fun too. So that makes 4 22 rifles and a pistol. Thinkin another ar and a tactical shotgun are next. HMMMM

i would go with the 10/22 its a very nice shooting rifle. i've got one in the target model and love it. i can take out penneys at 50 yards no problem. Very upgradeable anything you want for them.
