I purchased a 100rnd drum from my AR15. I have to admit, it does have that "If only this was full auto, it would be awesome" feel to it. Has anyone else bought one of these and use it other than at the range to reduce reloading?

on the left is the drum in it's carrying bag, and on the right is a 3 mag carrier.

same as above but outside the carrier.

Is the extra bulk and size worth the extra 10 rounds outside the range on a semi-auto? Also, I imagine that the drum is more likely to malfunction (more moving parts etc)

    I vote no.

If that one beta mag fails you are screwed if you don't have other mags. Your whole range trip is over. Those run for as much as MANY mags regular GI mags or magpul mags.

Plus that this is heavy as hell loaded.

I love it for the pure cool factor. As with any firearm, I never rely on just one mag, so if I have my C-mag with me, you can be sure there are several standard AR mags along for the ride, and fun!

You do have to be careful that you don't drop it. The plastic is known not to like sudden impacts.

Is that a true Beta mag or one of the knock offs?

They are fun for mag dumps but for personal defense I would stick with 30s.

Love mine, but mainly for shooting at the range in the winter when I don't want to freeze the fingers in the cold. Works great, haven't had any failures to feed with it so far... Probaly wouldn't be my first pick if I was gonna walk around with the carbine in a ready condition because of the added weight though. Maybe if I was mechanized and the zombies were out LOL...

Hotrodtba, is that real, who makes that mag... ?

You could always tripod mount it and use KNS's spade grip.....

Fun. That pretty much sums it up. Its hard enough for some manufacturers to get a 30 round mag right.
