i work for a trash company in indy and had a customer tell me he was cleaning out an old house and some how we got on the topic if the person was in the military. anyway he said they found a barrel in the house and started to describe it and i told him to bring it in and i might be able to tell him what it goes to. well he brought it in and its a 1903 barrel marked with the flaming bomb cartouche and date 2-44. he actually said you can have it. its got a little surface rust very light actually on the outside and the bore is nice and shiny. any thoughts what to do with it?

If you are not planning to build an 03, pass it on to another that is building one, look around, I think nice bore barrels are a couple hundred bucks if it has not been sporterized.

Check the barrel with a 30-06 round in the muzzle to be sure it isn't shot out...I have a Garand barrel lying around my house because it was shot out and I had it replaced...got the old barrel back but in it's current state it isn't worth much...just sayin:)

RA - should be Remington Arms, they made some of those rifles. I am more up on Garands but I know Remington made 1903A3 rifles. I would look on the civilian marksmanship site forum, those guys know that stuff.

It's a bbl for a 1903A3 made by Remington in 1944. I'd be interested in it if you're wanting to sell. I could tell you more if I could see it or pics. It could be a replacement bbl for an 03 but if dated 1944 I'd suspect 1903A3. Caliber is 30 06 btw.
