Well I was on the quest once again for a 1911-
Owned several throughout the years to include-
Kimbers, Springfields, Colts, Taurus and like everything else-I eventually sold them to fund other projects.

The Kimber out the box shot horrible and the sights were way off-
I actually had someone try at the gun shop to adjust them, couldnt even get the screw loosened to attempt adjustment-Had to send it in!

Springfield was the GI model, had some FTF's in the beginning-pretty plain and boring-no frills!

Colt was nice! Never shot it, just ended up selling!

The Taurus actually shot real well, no problems, just moved on!

So I was curious about the new Remington R1's-
So I went looking, had the chance to play with, fondle and admire the Remington's-affordable price and not a bad overall weapon. Out of the three I played with, one had no play and locked up tight! I think for the price they are going to give people a chance to own a 1911 without breaking the bank.

However, I just couldnt seem to drop the cash for one! Call it a gut feeling but, it just didnt happen!

Well since I was shopping around, I looked at pretty much every 1911 at the gun shop! It just so happens that when I go shopping I cant come home empty handed and thats what happened...

I ended up with a Smith & Wesson Model SW1911PD!
I usually shop around and then go home and try to read reviews, check pricing, etc. But I surely didnt do any of this time...
I got a great deal and went with it!

    Specs:
    Caliber: .45ACP
    Capacity: 8+1 Rounds
    Barrel Length: 4 1/4 inch
    Front Sight: Dot Front Sight
Rear Sight: Novak Lo Mount Carry
    Grip: Wood Grips
    External Safety: Single Side
    Frame: Medium
    Finish: Blue/Black
    Overall Length: 8 inch
Material: Scandium Alloy Frame/Carbon Steel Slide
    Weight Empty: 28 oz.

Well I went straight from the shop to the range-
and I must say that the S&W shot perfectly!! :D

I was shooting 230gr. FMJ's but it ate up everything I fed it!
Recoil was nice and the gun shot like a dream!
I am more than satisfied with my purchase and the performance of the Smith!

    Thanks for listening! :D

Right around 7 yards/25ft. Pretty close either way!
and the only reason I got a great deal was that I know for a fact that the Smith had been sitting at the gun shop for quite awhile-
He wanted it sold-so I got it way under cost!

Never had owned a Smith 1911-
Just like anything else, I was hoping for something that performed well-
Its nice, balance is exceptional and I really like the 4.25 barrel!
Its a bit easier to conceal, and it came with a spare mag.

Does it cost more than the Remington, yes!
Is it worth it, so far it is...

I think you did very, very well. If I had the money and inclination for another 1911, the SW1911 - in one flavor or another - would be my purchase. My first one is a more traditional Springfield Loaded but the idea of a non-traditional external extractor doesn't bother me one whit.

    Congratulations!

    Nice purchase!!

I trust you know that what you got was the Gunsite edition of Smith's 1911, so depending on what you paid you may have gotten a VERY good deal!

Looks like she shoots great and I am jealous of that scandium frame, it will be a pleasure to carry! Glad to see a Devil Dog get a good deal on a good shooting 1911. OOORAH!

Been a Glock guy for a long time after having a couple of bad experiences with a couple of bad 1911 representatives, but that is one sweet looking pistol. I'm interested in hearing if it eats up JHP's as well...

Would look just a tad cooler with a skeletonized trigger, but definitely very cool.

How much does one of these run?

Im a Glock guy myself-but this Smith is one of the nicest 1911's Ive owned
It just feels great! I agree on the skeletonized trigger, maybe something to add in the future.
As long as it keeps eating everything I feed it I will be happy!

I've been wondering how good the Smiths were... glad to hear they're as good as I'd hoped.

Kimber type grip safety depending on your feelings about that.
Also external extracter, depending again how you feel about that.

I think they are the only other mainline company that makes a commander sized lightweight gun with a bushing barrel tho...other than Colt.

    Pretty nice gun I'd say!
