The half cock hammer position comes in really handy if you ever have a 1911 suffering from "hammer follow"

Sorry to borrow your pic, but it's handy. I have several hammers. Some have full cock dual sear contact points like the one with the strut. Some are single contact like the other two. I assume it's easier to achieve a sear/hammer mating using the single contact. I try not to use this type because it seems like too much pressure on the sear. I used to know the concept behind the design, but I'm old now, and I forgot.

Already ordered beavertail and skeleton trigger. :n00b:
I will make the final decision when I see the parts

You will need a jig in order to cut the frame properly for the beavertail. The photo below is of a M1911A1 with a Wilson Combat frame cutting jig installed. Link
On edit, make sure you follow the instructions and square the jig to the slide.

The 1911 is not to hard to tinker with once you get into it, just go for it it's a ria. But I think you should have just gone and done a total custom job with Wilson combat parts they aren't really any more expensive than replacing factory parts I wouldn't imagine. Good luck with the repair job.

There is no mag safety on any 1911, including yours.
Fortunately for us. Many don't know JMB originally intended for the M1911 to have a magazine safety. If you read his patent of Feb. 17th 1910 (984,519), page two, paragraph 35, he explains reasoning's.

The trigger was 20$, the hammer was 20$, and the beavertail was 20$. So I'm not out much. Anybody have a frame cutting jig they'd loan out? They are only 25 bucks but I hate to buy one to only use it once.
