I never felt that I had a 1911 that was special enough to post in this thread, but I believe that I do now.
Recently, Wilson Combat offered about (20) sets of Wooly Mammoth grips. I chose a set that was from the 10,000 year old beast's tusks.

With the help of my CZ'icko brother, Churchmouse, the ambidextrous safety was removed from my stainless Springfield Loaded, so that the grips would fit.
I put them on with some 24K gold-plated screws, and I'm pleased with the result.

I’m still wowed by how nice that turned out MM

.460 rowland 2011 built as a last semester project in gunsmithing school

    First full build 1911, a .45acp

A kimber two-tone custom II I picked up for a song, gave it some “old style” new life with a rust blue and nitre blued controls, gifted to my brother for his 21st bday.

A Sig Nightmare full size .45, bought when the 1911 line was first introduced by Sig. Its a beast, has been chugging along with over 10,000 rounds at this point, only issue being a broken firing pin spring(which did not affect function of the pistol at the time it was found, easily 50 or more rounds later)

On the Springfield 1911 I'm on the same fence. I want a 1911 in the fleet and the only one I have is the parkerized loaded model. Only compaint about the gun is that it's a Springfield and I'm still bitter about the Illinois thing. If I could swap it for a Dan Wesson Specialist I'd do it, but I need to save up some more $$ to make that transaction happen.

Look at the Standard Manf. line up. 3 models differing only in finish. I would put them out front of the DW as I see them. I own 2 and am looking at the 3rd.
