I have a Springfield XDM 5.5" .45 and a SA 1911-A1. I carry the XDM because it is virtually indestructible and has higher capacity. Plus it fits my hands better. But I love to shoot 1911's I like them both, just have different uses. The XDM sure shoots good out of the box for the money. Just my experience.

I am specifically wanting to know about easy of carry, reliability, price comparison, resale value, any real problems with either gun. Thanks.

Ease of carry? 1911 weighs more but carries well due to it's narrowness. XD is lighter but wider.

Reliability? XD wins against cheaper 1911s. More expensive 19th are just as reliable but demand more maintenance.

Price comparison? 1911s worth having are more expensive.

Resale value? 1911s will hold their value better.

Problems? 1911s costing the same as the XD will tend to have more problems. More tolerances to maintain and angles that need to be right on the 1911.

I will say this, if I had to sell all my guns
butt 1, I would keep my XD9 sc as its my best all around
    performer.

Daily carry, home defense (with 16 round mag) and a
nice shooter at the range, its hard to beat.

Tried one of them yesterday in a XDs 45. Felt like a 1911. I have large hands so the XDs was kinda small for me but other than the Sig 3inch barrled 1911's those were the best feeling compact 45's around I've found.

Used to own a XD 45 and nicer 1911. Now still own 1911 and sold XD 45 hi-capacity because I could stand the trigger anymore. XD's are my favorite poly guns but to upgrade their, IMO, not worth it.

I had heard that Kahr now owned that line.
Good article. I would have liked to see some pics of the paper he punched.
Looks like RIA may have some competition.

I will say, owning a few Kahr products (cm9, cw9, and cw380), kahr makes a hell of a gun. A no frills, reliable, EXTREMELY tight tolorence handgun. I've owned an older auto ordinance GI that wasn't made by kahr at the time, and it turned out to be pretty "basic" in terms of fitment. I'm am however quite interested in checking out a new AO GI model.
