Gab, the free-speech alternative to Twitter, has been taken offline following the Pittsburgh shooting.

Media is labeling it as an "extremist friendly" outlet, which is an odd way to think of free speech.

Lesson to be learned? When they tell you to "make your own Twitter", they don't really mean it. You're only allowed to use approved social media outlets. Alternatives will be shut down.

Howard Dean: Gab should be tried as accomplice to murder in synagogue slayings

Well that's a special kind of stupid. What about the other social media outlets that these people post on? Or is there something special about this one in-particular that you don't like?

I do not know anything about gab, I don't know what can be done about people going over the top with their rhetoric.

INGO is a relatively small site and we have good moderation. when you have tens or hundreds of thousands of people posting how do you moderate.

INGO has rules and occasionally someone gets a vacation and every now and then the Hammer.

Is that a violation of free speech?

No it isn't. The point is, those people were told to go get their own platform to discuss their ideas. They did, and now other companies are trying to stop them from doing so. That is wrong. This is no different than companies refusing to do business with gun companies.

So do I understand there was no moderation and they spoke of illegal acts.

I admit I am totally in the dark here.

I do not twit, facewhatever, or anything beside INGO, You Tube and check e-junk-mail.

    Facepalm.

All these people are welcome to go to a country without a bill of rights.

I do not know how much if any moderation there is on that site. Maybe GP can answer that.

I do know that I do not like the idea of companies pushing their own social agendas by refusing to do business with companies that they don't agree with.

I've only read a little about it, but from what I understand, that site encourages the use of filters for people to either see or not see content based on what they want to see or don't want to see.

This is similar to when many were criticizing Apple for not giving the FBI a backdoor entry to the San Bernandino killers' phones (in turn giving the FBI backdoor entry into ALL iphones)... A special kind of stupid indeed.

I will always err on the side of free speech, and I've leaned way more Libertarian over my few years on INGO with all that I've read and learned (You know who you are - and Thank You)

Find a Youtube video of Rosie Odonnell talking.
    Now click "Play"
    Does that bother you?
    Yes?
    That's good.
Now turn off the sound and just watch.
    Still bother you?
    Yes?
    You have a problem.

    If it's legal, it's kosher.

They don't allow threats of violence, child porn, etc... the usual. But "hate speech" ain't a thing. Call someone a ****** all you want.

They're also cooperating with the FBI/etc, providing all information on the Pittsburgh shooter, as they should.

The way they're portrayed in the media is on the "literally Hitler" level.
