Yes, especially this particular model. My wife had an 03 Focus and a couple of my co-workers had 04s, none of them made it past 85k without needing a new transmission. My wife's Focus didn't even make it to 70K before the transmission went and it had nearly constant minor problems before that: electronics had issues, sunroof leaked, wouldn't stay in alignment, etc. It was simply the worst new vehicle I've had the misfortune of being around and I wouldn't sink much money in to fixing one up.

Also check the radiator as the transmission cooling lines pass thru and can contaminate both fluids.
