Each year I celebrate the landings and battle of Normandy, or D-Day (June the 6th 1944) by visiting one of the many Allied War Cemeteries in the region and by going to the beach as a way to pay my respects to our fallen heroes.

Last year I also threw a message into the Ocean along with some flowers.
I know that some INGO members have some family members who are (or were) WW2 veterans. Some of them actually died on those beaches.

I thought it could be neat to include a few lines from you into that message this year.
If you are interested you can PM me, or leave your messages in this thread (if that's not too private), and I will print them all to throw them into the ocean on June 6th next month.

Of course you dont need to have any parent or family member in mind if you just want to add a generic message.
Let me know if you are interested or if you have other ideas. :patriot:

Sylvain, there's nothing that any of us could add to your very touching tribute. As you go, know that a lot of us are there with you, even if only in spirit.

Send pics and I expect you to be wearing that adorable little beret.:)

Kudos for this, Sylvain. The only message I would send would be:
You made the ultimate sacrifice for liberty. I am ashamed to say it was for naught. We, your children and grandchildren, pissed it away.

Well I was walking through graveyard
    Endless rows of white
Where they buried all the men
Who ever took up arms to fight.

When I came across this old man
He was talking to the grave.
I kept my distance, watched in awe
As he spoke to them by name.
    Kacey you were the captain
Of our high school football team.
And Iggy we knew you lied about you age
    You were seventeen.
And Holland you were the first to fall
    When we came under attack.

    You boys are the heroes,
The ones who never made it back.
And he said...Buddy if you hear me,
Well you know you save my life.
And I wont forget the others,
on your left and on your right.
It wont be long until I'm gone
You know I'll join you then.
Then our last band of brothers will rise again.

So I called that man a hero
And I asked if we could meet.
    But instead he introduced
    the men of Easy Company.
    He said we never dreamed
    what we would see
When raised up our right hand.
But our lives were bound forever
When we stepped out on that sand.

He said... Buddy if you hear me
Well you know you save my life.
And I wont forget the others
On your left and on your right.
It won't be long until I'm gone
You know I'll join you then.
Then our last band of brothers will rise again.

Well it's been a while since I've been by
So I stopped just the other day.
And I notice there was one more stone
In the ground where Easy laid.

And I said...Buddy if you hear me
Well I know you gave your life.
And I wont forget the others
On your left and on your right.
A generation gone but you've moved on
I know your there with them.
And now your last band of brothers will rise again

Oh, your last band of brothers will rise again

Throw a little bourbon and a cigarette in a bottle for me and bury it in the sand.

Many stayed behind and watched their loved ones go away
To stand for what was right in the midst of the fray
To ensure others' peace while in sleeping beds they lay
Some will never forget the heroes of the day

Yours is a sacrifice that will not be forgotten
