Though mentioned elsewhere on INGO awhile ago, we are coming up on our first annual M.S.C.C. auction for 2015 membership slots and want to ensure folks know how this will be conducted.

    Just the facts:

    1) Who: this is for anyone wanting a 2015 membership in the club who did not make the "first come/first served" cut at the club earlier on New Year's day OR anyone who just wants to buy in with no waiting...this is for you!

    1) What: an auction for 10 annual family membership spots (family being husband/wife and any kids in household under 18 years old)

    2) When: New Year's Day 2015 at 10 AM

    3) Where: Morgan County Fairgrounds largest building, across st. from the Natl. Guard Armory on Hospital Drive (252 west 1/4 mi. off 37)

    4) Cost: Bids will start at $150/family membership (normal new membership cost)...then go to whatever the market will bear. Proceeds above and beyond this cost and any incidentals related to the auction, will be donated to the Morgan County 4H Shooting Sports

    5) Payment: May be made by personal check or cash...receipts will be offered

    6) What winners will receive: On the spot winners will receive a rules packet, get a receipt for funds paid and complete a new member form. By end of January 2015, winners will receive an electronic gate card permitting access to club's facility on Burton Lane in Martinsville. Card will cover the period end Jan 2015 til end Jan 2016 (a full 12 months). Like all other existing members, winners will be able to renew membership for 2016 by completing renewal form mailed in early Nov. and returning a check for the then annual renewal amount (currently $100/year)...gate card will remain activated as long as renewal is made by late Dec. deadline)

    Good luck,

Roger for the Board of M.S.C.C.

So, I assume that means there will be ten less spots available to those who go out and sit all night in the cold hoping to get in!?
So maybe five to ten new members will get in by showing up in person?

In the other thread it was posted these 10 would be in addition to however many are opened from non-renewals. In essence 510 memberships for 2015

What will the auction format be? Also, if one has no other family members that will make use of the membership, is there anyway to add a friend to the membership? Thanks!

Not sure how to answer this other than to say we'll start the bidding at $150 for the first of ten available auctioned memberships...highest bid gets it. Repeat, repeat til we auction off all 10 available spots...probably a done deal in 30 minutes. Not much more complicated than that.

As for adding a friend to the "family" membership when a person has no other family shooters...sorry, that is something we just don't allow because even though these are "family" memberships, it's mostly men who shoot at our club. If we allowed "friends" to be part of a membership, we'd drastically increase the number of shooters on any given day...something we are not going to let happen.

Thank you. That all makes perfect sense. As far as the auction, I just wasn't sure if it was a traditional auction, or the silent type where you just write down the most you are willing to pay. Thanks for the clarification!

Last year, my Father in Law and I spent the night sleeping in the truck waiting for the gate to open in the morning. It was a long time to wait, but it was fun meeting new people that share similar interest.

One more question. Can a person bid on, and potentially win, more than one membership (e.g. one for themselves, and one for a friend)?
