2015 Spring Turkey Hunt

I am taking part in the spring turkey hunt at Deer Creek FWA next weekend. Staff at Deer Creek say that the turkeys are usually seen around the pond at Deer Creek. I was out there today looking around. I saw a pair of Canadian Geese, one squirrel and another water bird. Not a sole out there. I'm a rookie hunter. Does anyone have any suggestions about turkey hunting near the pond at deer creek? Is it a good idea to set up a blind to hunt from? Near the treeline maybe, or ? I'm fishing for any suggestions. Thanks.
