A few programs let you "adopt" a soldier's grave.
Some locals schools do that, each children gets to learn about the life of a fallen soldier, bring flowers to their grave and in some cases get in touch with the soldier's family.

That is what our American children need to be doing for all of our war dead. From the revolutionary war to the latest war on terror US children need to be encouraged to adopt a veteran's grave. That, and being provided a copy of the declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America, might counteract some of what they are being fed in our public schools.

A lot of fallen US soldiers buried in the US still have family living nearby that can visit their graves.
There's no point for Americans to adopt a local grave.
The whole point of having French people adopt US graves in France is because American families can't travel regularly to France to visit the grave.
