    mag length is 2.250 inches. Some try to load them out further, but there is really no benefit with the non vld bullets, and you compromise reliability if you try to load them to 2.260, and they may hang up on the front of the magazine. If you use VLD Bullets (like the AMAX), they like to be seated closer to the lands, or even jammed into them.

    j-d you were given excellent info from bigdaddy, but for your own safety you really should get one or more reloading manuals instead of relying solely on reloading info from the internet. Just my :twocents:

    (bigdaddy and I use the same loads more or less)

    Max Length

    I hope this dosen't insult any one, but the purpose for loading to max length and having the bullet touch the lands is to reduce the "jump" to the lands. And Generally when you do this it is for extreme long range accuracy and the cartridges are single loaded into the AR with a special follower installed in the mag. Also most of the time it is done with 90+ grain bullets in rifles that have 1 in 6 twists, when shooting over 600 yrds, and those cannot be loaded in the mag anyway.

    Load long=more powder, not necessary unless using burn rate around vv150
    Special follower isn't necessary, but a plus
    Most of the time 80 grain bullets, 8 twist

    :ar15:The special Follower just makes it easier, I have one for when I compete up at Wildcat, love it! And my 1 in 9 does great for 77grn. would just love to load up a few heavier ones just to see how bad they tumble or if the groups just get bigger, at 200 & 300 yrds. One would also need an overall length gauge to get it right. Some thing I have not added to my equipment yet, bought a Dillon Digital scale instead!

    My loads and data

    Her are the loads I use 69grn match hpbt 24.5 grns 2230, 75grn Match hpbt 23grns 2230, 55grn ball 22 grns 2230.

    Here is FPS data from my shooting chrony beta model:
    69grn Lo 3046, hi 3105, average 3083, Extreme spread 59.39, standard deviation 16.40

    75grn lo 2895, hi 2967,average 2928. extreme spread 71.71 standard deviation 23.32
    Those are my match loads indvidually weighed on a Dillon Digital scale.

    55grn plinkers loaded 22grn 2230 with Lee Auto disk;
    lo 2487, hi 2615, average2538, etreme spread 127.9, Standard deviation 41.72 That shows why I bought the scale for match loading.

    Then just for fun I loaded 55 grn to a max load of 24.5 grns and this is what I got, lo 3226, hi 3912, Average 3472, Exteme spread 686.1, Standard deviation 33.34, individual shots were 3891, 3912, 3254, 3273, 3274, 3223. Can't explain the two high ones except for the crony acting funny, or some type of interference. Only shot these at 50yrds at Wilber Wright range. So goupings were good, can't hardly miss at 50yrds. But these match loads are what I use when I compete At Wildcat range in lafayette, and they seem to work pretty well, I just need more practice!
