Can .223 brass be reloaded to 5.56 loading specs?

Specs? Which one, bullet weight and construction / seating depth / pressure / speed / annealed casings etc?

So there's better ways to ask some questions and when it comes to reloading it pays to be specific when you're looking for answers that potentially involve issues of safety.

*If* what you meant was may a .223 case that's typically loaded to the SAMMI piezo measured pressure standard of 55,000 psi be loaded to Nato 5.56mm/45mm 62,366 psi using the EPVAT NAAG-LG/3-SG/1 standard the answer is it absolutely can be.

Should you do it just because you can? Only if your firing it in a NATO marked chamber and there's no chance that a round will somehow wind up in the shorter leade chamber of a .223 Remington sporting arm. Also, you would need to have good ballistic software to guide your load construction and pressure testing equipment to do it right.

Unless you have direct access to shoot at ranges 4-600 meters or more theres absolutely no reason to load that hot unless you like to vaporize Prairie Dogs at 250 yards with 40 grain V-Max rounds, and that crowd knows better than to ask loosely defined loading questions.

I'm not trying to beat you up OP, it's just that when people post questions on loading forums they get all kinds of wrong answers to questions that didn't get enough thought put into them before the "post" button is hit. Then other people looking for information end up finding those posts. And you know the rest of the story...
