Ok - lets roll this back a bit.

What are you trying to accomplish?

There's really no such thing as commercially loaded "match grade" .270. .270 is a hunting cartridge. The last person to win a match with a .270 was probably in my grandfather's generation. There are just too many other options out there that blow the .270 out of the water in competition.

That being said, any handloader can create ammo that can shoot the lights out with a good rifle.

Should have no problem getting 7mm out to 1000 with the right loads. Higher BC and heavier bullets are going to translate into groups that hold together better. The .270 is really limited in both of those areas.

I've got a 700 ADL in 7mm which is a nothing special rifle, but boy is it a shooter.

The real problem is the lack of match bullets for the 270. The 270 has never been a match caliber.

It has always been eclipsed by the 30.06 and later the .308 and now is completely outclassed by the 6mm and 6.5mm"s high BC bullets.

The 7mm Rem Magnum has been used by a close friend to win the 1000 yard Indiana State Championship. Once.

There are far better cartidges being used.

The .270 has never really been a match competitor...
It has generally always been a very capable hunting round, with 800 Meters shots well within its reach using factory loads...
There is no animal in North America that cannot be taken with the .270...

And it seems to shoot flat for miles. I loved hunting deer with a .270 when I lived in MO.

I've shot a few 7mm mags, nice rifles. And I believe that it would be a great long distance rifle! I'm just stuck on the .30 caliber rounds myself, .308, .30-06, and .300 Win Mag. Get what you want and you will be happy. ;)

Thats kind of what Im thinking, It is just one of those rifles that stuck out and for some reason you just have to have it. I seen it first thing when I walked in and went directly over to it. And I have been on the hunt for a long range target gun for a while now, and I think the 7mm will do quite nicely.

every situation is diffrent but for a mainly target rifle in the 7mm class id take a hard look at the 7-08. im just not a huge fan of magnum calibers. save your sholder for more pratice. pratice will trump ballistics 9 times out of 10

True on the recoil, But it cant be no worse than a mosin or mauser, lol. I put a limbsaver on the mauser an I can shoot it about all day long. But I agree recoil does suck.

Match bullets for the .270, probably not labeled as such. But - people forget that the 6.8SPC is a .277 cal bullet too.

Hornady match and Sierra Matchking would be my choice. Both are listed under the 6.8mm catagory, but they're still .277 cal.

Great advice, but I think the 260 is a better choice for a target rifle. The 7-08 shines as a silhouette caliber.

I know you agree with me.....:)
