depends on what your trying to shoot. If your trying for sub moa groups 100 yards is about it. If your trying for minute of man about 1000 yards.
What vette said. FWIW, I have used one on my ML for the last several years for deer season, but all of my shots are within 160-170yds where I hunt.
IMO, 2-7x feels OK on a 3-4" target out to 150-200yds, but as I get closer to 300yds I have a harder time feeling comfortable with placement on live targets (paper is easier since I have a much better feel of the physical dimensions.)
