Well i finally got my hands on some 1680 and got my 220gr eld-x bullets to shoot fantastically 11.5gr was the "accuracy load" in the lyman book and it shot great. also tried 17gr of imr 4227 under a 150gr fmj and they shot really good as well.

Anyone play with round nose 30 carbine bullets? I have some 110gr ones i bought just for fun they showed some promise but the reliability was hit or miss one mag would be flawless the next would jam quite a bit. It wasn't the mags either. i have seen guys do it but im still tinkering.

My most accurate combination is, H110 with Nosler 110 vgddn . 4227 next. I get 2-3" groups with Hdy 150 grn fmj in semi auto. That's cut in half when I shoot 13" MGM barrel T/C contender pistol. In fact, that MGM barrel cuts groups in half relative to all my semi auto. Extreme 150 grain are a mess in all of my guns (I do not recommend). Lee .312 Dia mold 160 grain bullets do not do well in any gun ( for me) but the MGM barrel.

Thanks for all the info gents. :ingo:

I have a lot of fiddling around to do with different loads and guns. I'll be mainly using the 8# jug of CFE BLK I have on hand, but do have some odds and end pistol powders also.

I'm curious what others have come up with for accurate loads? Do any cast/coated bullets compare to jacketed? I have a fair variety of cast .30 cal to work with.

Right now my favorite accuracy load is using 16.5gr of IMR 4227 under a Speer 125 TNT bullet.

I've casted quite a few 180gr and powder coated them with a gas check underneath. Their not nearly as accurate as the Speer's but that's to be expected. I'd say 3" at 100 yards. I need to get back experimenting more with them as I have quite a few.

I really liked w296 for the 110 vmax. Better than vv110, which was the other I tried for that bullet. I liked 19.2 gr of w296 2.050 COAL with a kiss of Lee FC die and WSR primers. 19.4 grains showed some primer flattening. Very accurate. 2300 FPS avg out of my noveske 16” and 2110 avg out of my 8.5” noveske. Prefer the barnes tac 110 for hunting though. I can dig out that data too if youre interested.

    Thanks for those #'s Craig.
I have loaded similar loads with Nosler 110 Varmetegon , with H-110 and Wolf .223 Primer.
My loads were about 1.0 grain lighter.
    Keep the info up..Bill.

I went out today and ran some new loads through my radical upper. First were some 180gr powder coated cast bullets from a mold i cut and they shot flawless and grouped at about 2" at 100yds. Those were completely developed by me as there is obviously no info on a bullet i made. I plan on tinkering and trying to tighten the group. second was the 110gr plated m1 carbine bullet. I lengthened the oal on these and that fixed the reliability issues i had. the 110s grouped at about 1.5" at 100yds. Then i shot 50 rounds of the eld-x bullets over 1680 just to ensure they would function since i only tested like 10 before. I shot these on steel so i dont know the group size but it was plenty accurate for what i do.

Thanks! I've been pursuing going to H110 for the 110 Z-Max's I have on hand. My reading had pointed me to around 19gr.

I was running out of room before I got to the max load with CFE BLK. Marking the Z-Max's and had to settle for 2.07 COAL with 22.7gr CFE BLK.

I ran 18 grains of 296 with Sierra 125 last week. Accuracy from the Ruger Ranch was good. That combo blew thru shoulder & heart of buck Friday evening. Had to run overall length up to 2.100" to cycle feed better.
