I am currently trying to put together a 300 blackout pistol build. I am looking at 8.5 or a 10 in barrel. Any advice on cycling reliability or overall shoot ability
What are you wanting to do with it? Fun gun or hunting?
My 8.2" Noveske has been flawless both suppressed and unsuppressed with subsonic and supersonic ammo. I wanted 8.2" because it's a fun gun for me. I haven't done anything past 100 yards yet.

Mostly a plinker to try out 300 blk, maybe eventually a suppressed sbr for hd. Glad to here that yours cycles well suppressed and unsuppressed at that length
Yea I haven't had any issues with my 8.2" either. I think the individuals having cycling issues are messing with their buffer weights or something. Maybe gas port/block issues...idk. My 300 blk was my first AR15 build and it has been flawless with everything I put through it.
I went with a 8.5" barrel and a pistol length gas system on my SBR. I'm running just a standard carbine buffer and spring. I haven't had any issues at all running sub or supersonic ammo.
I'm running a nickle boron BCG to make cleaning easier with all the suppressed shooting. I was running a standard canine spring and buffer until I got a JP Enterprises silent spring. It helps make it quieter when shooting suppressed subs.
Sweet rigs. Look cool compared to my 16". Hate the idea of paying tax stamps. 300 is a nice round and this post reminds me to hit the press and make some more ammo.
If I can hop on here (since I am starting a build myself), what length would you all recommend if I am most interested in shooting 110-125gr supers? I've been shopping 10-12.5" guns to gain a little velocity over the standard 8.5-9" but still be short. It would be built as a pistol first and then SBR'ed later.
I am working on a build too. I am waiting on my stamp. I'll be going with a 8.5" barrel but still trying to decide on where to buy it. I've been looking at KAK but Radical Firearms & Ballistic Advantage are in the running. If I see PSA run theirs on sale again I might just pick it up instead.
I just finished a 7.5" pistol in 300 blk and did have a few problems with cycling. Two problems actually. It took a couple of tries to get the gas block lined up exactly where I wanted it so was undergassed. Once I got that ironed out, still wasn't cycling 100% so I soaked the bcg in 5w-40 motor oil and and has been 100% since. Super fun to shoot and quickly became my favorite gun...for now.
I love seeing all of these shorties on here... I've got a 10" and I filed for another stamp to put a 8.3" together but it'll be awhile till that comes back. I don't see any reason you'd have function issues though OP if you haven't gotten that already from the guys commenting.
Would someone please tell me what the advantage of 300 black out over 5.56 and 7.62 besides they are pricy? I was thinking about getting a pistol AR chamberred in 300blk but not sure if it is worth it. The ammo price is ridiculous.
If your not going to suppress it, to me its not worth and if you don't reload for it, its really not worth it, to me any way. I built one about 3 years ago and sold it not long after just due to ammo costs and the exact fact that it didn't provide me anything more than the 5.56 cartridge didn't do. Since then I got a suppressor and a SBR in 300BLK that's a whole different ball game when you can use subs out of it suppressed as well as I'm reloading for it so ammo costs are shrunk way down. The fun factor goes way up shooting that caliber suppressed with subs, but even then it doesn't do anything more than my 5.56 guns other than its just fun to shoot.
