My friend has a AK 47 In a 7.62 and I was wondering if u can shoot a .308 round also? Maybe a dumb question but I no I will have an answer in 5 minutes from you guys.
You can't load a .308 or 7.62x51 round in a rifle chambered for 7.62x39, but if you get into reloading, the projectiles are very similar, and mistaking one for the other wouldn't cause a problem.

If I'm not mistaken a 7.62x51 is .308 in dia. and a 7.62x39 is actually .311 dia. I wouldn't use a .311 bullet in a .308. Now the other way would work, .308 in a .311 but your accuracy would likely suffer. (going from memory so I apologize if I'm wrong)
It's on the order of a hair's breadth. It'll go down the barrel, but might up the pressure some. Yeah, one way is better than the other, but you'd have to be loading them pretty hot to blow it up the other way.
0.003" is inside the bore variation from one barrel maker to the next.
In one of Ackley's books he describes running 8mm bullets down a 30 cal barrel and finding not much pressure variation. Bullets with long bearing surfaces or of all copper construction might do something, but it wouldn't be much.
