a 22 will drop a deer fast if shot placement is in the correct spot. That is the key with hunting with a small caliber handgun. If you make a good shot, you will have no problem droping you a deer with a 357. Good Luck!

It will do its job if you practice, choose a wise shot,I don not know your experience but hunting with a handgun can be compared to hunting with a bow. IMHO. bigger caliber and optics change this ofcourse.

i killed a lot of deer in the 80's with a 686 like this but not a 7 shot.....180gr JHP.....killed plenty from 50 to 100y with open sights....if you do hunt with 1 go shoot it more than just in to sight in at the beginnin' of the season...get good with it and you wouldn't be chasin' wounded deer all over the woods.... might take it out this year...

I was gonna make a thread like this. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with a .44 or a .357, but I already decided on the .44

I absolutely love my s&w 357 for deer... mounted a pro-point on it and can do consistent 3" groups at 75 yards from my sticks
Hey Marriott (or Anyone) know a good place to pick up cheap 180 grains?
I'm down to my last box and need to restock.

Where do you guys target shoot? Would love to see you do 3" groups at 75 yards. I would love to learn your technique. Also 100 yards with open sights. Fantastic.

Gotta admit I've had my pistol worked and that in single action the break is right at a pound. Makes for some pretty easy grouping when you take your time...

Two words to remember when hunting with a handgun: Hearing Protection! I took a pretty good buck with a S&W 629 44 mag. a few years back. Since than I have had a constant ringing in my left ear! I always wear protection at the range, never thinking that I'd shoot enough to do any harm in a hunting situation, but I was wrong.
