Not very scientific but interesting results.

S&W Bodyguard 380 shot into dry phone books at 1 foot.
    Ammo:
    Corbon (CB) Top Left
Hornady Critical Defense (CD) Top Right
Winchester Silver Tip (ST) Bottom Left
Winchester White Box (WB) Bottom Right

    Results:
Only Corbon made it through the first phone book.
Silver Tip expanded the most, pentrated least.
Critical Defense, did not expand, the jacket is very ragged and it penetrated just a bit further than Silver Tip.
White Box out penetrated both ST and CD.

I think I will be sticking with Corbon. Critical defense was really not very impressive.
I still have a stack of phone books so I plan to do this again with 40S&W.

Now I will try to put the pics on here...
The phone book with 4 holes in it.

    Another look.

    First find, Silver Tip

Critical Defense not too much past that.

    White Box just past those

And finally Corbon made it into the cover of the second book (its up by the elephants top left)

So, this means I could make adequate body armor against .380 acp JHPs using only phone books.

Interesting ...waiting for the .40 cal results. Do you have enough books to go through all the pistol calibers???

    Reminds me of .....

There was an episode of Burn Notice where Michael Weston stuffs some phonebooks in the dorr panels of his car as protection against hangun fire. I was curious about that but never had the time to see if it was real. I do not think that I will use phone books as cheap body armor anytime soon!

I think Mythbusters did an episode where they "bulletproofed" a car with phonebooks.

I remember seeing an ammo test of .380's and the conclusion was, that FMJ's was the way to go in a .380. They got best penetration over all the jacketed hollow points through various configurations of clothing.

Phone books are not the limiting factor. Most of my pistols are 40. I have a 22, 44, 223 and 12GA, but other than the 44 I probably wont be testing the others. Who knows.

I mainly did this to see if the Critical Defense was anything spectacular. It has gotten a lot of hype since it came out and I was curious how it performed next to my old standby of Corbon.
