Had to finish a wounded button buck this morning, my dog found him and it appears that he'd probably met with a car last night, front legs would hardly work and was quickly too exhausted to move.
Anyway, Ruger LCP, winchester hollow point self defense ammo, about 2 yards. 3 shots to heart lung area & one to head. Nothing made it all the way through the deer. What that means regarding self defense effectiveness I don't know, after coyotes and buzzards have done their work I'm going to see if I can find a bullet or two & check for expansion.

Never tested any 380 auto loads. I think anything that shoots a heavier bullet will typically do a better job of penetration (Remington loads run slightly heavier bullet weights 102 grain I think)

I cary Fmj in both mags on my lcp. 380 needs as much penetration as it can get. In my Xd 9 I prefer use a hornaday hollow point(about the same as the off the shelf hornaday xtp i think)
I don't have dies for. 380 yet but I have tried winchester and federal sd and feel safer with Fmj.....but I carry my. 380 as a back up....I also carry Fmj 's in my extra mags for my Xd. For a night stand guy sd rounds would be better because any missed shot prob.wont penetrate a solid door or a wall.
