research it some more. I believe this is the case but regs are always changing. The DNR might have changed something since I last was informed.
Wish it was......great cartridge.
I have no personal experience with the 45-70. My nieghbor shoots the round. He reloads in black powder. Competes in shoots down in Friendship at the muzzle loader shoots.
That's good to hear, I think that it may be just to much gun though..
Does it kick like a mule?
Alright, seems like its a way outdated round!
These kick like a mule. A mule on meth. I wouldn't call it outdated...
45-70 Magnum - Lever Gun Rifle & Gun Ammunition
Garrett Cartridges Inc.
Marlin 1895 Guide Gun.
Just because its old doesn't mean its outdated. Look a the 30-06. Its been around for over 100 years. It's still very popular and its very relavent. I've often thought of getting a 45-70 for fun, but other guns keep getting in the way, waiting for a check so I can get a 1911 right now.
My father has a 45-70 Springfield Model 1873 trapdoor which is a ton of fun to shoot and doesnt kick as much as a 12ga. He also has an .50-70 Springfield Model 1866 which kicks a little more but still not as bad as a 12ga in my opinion. They are both incredibly accurate considering how old they are. We do not have any problem hitting 8inch steel plates at 180yds. We would shoot the .50-70 more but the brass is almost impossible to find, which doesnt bother me cause both the 1873 and 1866 are a pain to clean.
The 45-70 is not legal to hunt with because it is not a handgun round. i have a Springfield Trapdoor and 200 rounds of black powder substitute rounds that I have yet to shoot.
Well I was kinda assuming that since you are still capable of typing you had not shot that Garrett ammo! Thats just CRAZY! 500 grains moving at 1500 fps, the concussion must be outrageous!

When the Buffalo Bore lights off, you know about it. I'd have loved to have used it at the "How safe is a brick wall" thread! https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...ing_of_residential_brick_walls_pic_heavy.html
