I had a handgun that shot the 45-70 it was a MAGNUM RESEARCH

Still developed as a rifle round to begin with and can be pretty potent with smokeless powder.

I have a stainless guide gun and it does not kick nearly as much as I thought it would. I would compare recoil to a .308 rifle. I like the gun because it is short and handy. Fairly light to carry, also. Last time I read the book, that round is not legal to hunt deer in Indiana. It may be legal to hunt squirrels with, though...Go figure...John

What would the point of squirrel hunting with a 45-70!? Can you say vaporized!

If you reload for the 45/70 you can make it kick as hard as you like. You can start with 300 gr lead bullets and work up to 500 gr. For plinking loads I use 300 gr lead bullets with 15 grs of Trail Boss. The case is to long to use in a rifle for deer hunting in IN.
