I have found that playing with the tension of the crimp helps with the unburnt powder. Just a lil tighter crimp gives the powder an extra fraction of a sec to burn. I have been told that a little unburnt powder is normal since the case is really intended for black powder and I am only filling the case about 1/4. I use Accurate 5744 in my 45-70 loads.

I've had good luck with H335 and H4895 with 300 gr. and up bullets. Accurate 2015 is faster and works well with the lighter 250 gr. Barnes X bullets. My 45-70 is a Marlin 1895G Guide Gun, shorter barrel.

I'v been using H4895 and Varget over CCI LR primes and a 350gr cast bullet and a heavy crimp with great results and very consistent velocity w/very little unburnt powder. This is with a Marlin 1895G, 1895S with good results with a short and long barrel. I also use it in a 16 Contender with fair results but a lot of recoil.
I also us this with 426gr WFN (wide flat nose) cast bullets for clean kills on larger game (elk, bear & moose).
