I carry a 1911 Government Model without too much trouble...but almost all the 1911 pattern makers have both a Commander size and Officer's size (or variation thereof) available if you want something shorter. The slimness of the 1911 pattern makes it surprisingly concealable.

    Here
    I've carried a Beretta 92 FS ( 9mm )
    I've carried a Sig P238 ( .380 )

    Now I carry a Glock 36 (.45 ACP). I won't be switching anytime soon.

I carry a Taurus PT-145 - 10+1 and reasonably small. Not a pocket gun, but IWB works fine.

Para Companion is a great 7+1 single stack 1911, easily concealed, and doesn't require the use of the safety.

I carry a Kahr CW45 during the summer which is a great gun, easy to carry... But I also switch it up with a SA 1911 Mil Spec which has a great slim profile. Its surprisingly a great weapon that easly conceals for easy handling... Happy hunting for the right one for you...

My everyday carry is a S&W M&P 45 compact. I carry IWB with a crossbreed super tuck and it works great for me. I like the M&P's

You want to focus on the platform, not the weapon. It is not necessary to have a small pistol, in fact it is a disadvantage in many ways. You want a flat pistol and a quality rig that will suck it up against you.

Focus on finding a good holster AND belt. You want quality leather and quality work. You want a GUN belt from the same maker as your holster, not a belt from The Gap. Ensure that the holster, mag carrier and belt all fit and that there is no slop or wobble.

I use a Milt Sparks Executive Companion in horsehide. There are many fine makers today.

    1. Quality rig.
    2. Think flat, not small.
    3. Holster, mag carrier AND gun belt.
