I'm looking for a 45acp semi-auto pistol. I really like the exposed hammer. I just discovered a Ruger P97 which looks like it would meet my needs, but I can't find one for sale (I have a P95 which I love). I have also considered a Bersa Thunder 45.
It has to be 45acp, Double Action, and exposed hammer (like a Sig). I'm trying to stay in the $500 range, which excludes the Sigs.
    Anybody have any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Some other, random ideas:

-EAA Witness (which is a CZ Copy)
    -Taurus 845 (and probably others)
    -Beretta PX4 Storm
-Sig P250 is a concealed hammer, but still a hammer fired pistol
    -Sar K2 (another CZ clone)

The Rugers are safe bets if you can find them anyplace in stock. I see them a lot at gun shows. The Bersa is another solid choice and would be a decent pick if you wanted to conceal carry. The used Sigs would probably be safe, too.

    Best of luck!

If you're willing to get one that's been out of production for over twenty years, the third generation Smith & Wesson model 4506 would be an excellent choice.

Although I haven't got around to taking it for a field trip, I bought a Smith and Wesson 645 for no reason other than I fell in love with it when it graced the cover of the Guns & Ammo annual when I was in 7th grade and was long out of production when I was actually old enough to buy a handgun, and then, after joining INGO, Boogieman listed one for sale, and I bought it just because. It does seem to be the well-made gun one would expect from S&W. Maybe one of these days when my list of things to do gets under about 3000 entries I will get to play with it!

I second this. 3rd gen Smith's are great guns.

They sure are (model 1006). ;)

FNP 45. Not the tacticool. Just checked WalletBreaker and looks like they can be had $550 -575 now. If you can wait I think you can do better, maybe $525.
These guns don't get the love they should on INGO

Pistols are a lot like women, everyone has their favorite and it has to feel good in your hand. Mine is a Beretta PX4 Storm in 45 ACP.

I love it that as a free people (so far) we have so many choices that we can have lengthy discussions about it.

Beretta 8045. I like the mini cougar version.

Steger makes t h em now using Beretta tooling, I believe.

Would fit your price range if metal frames are your style. They are basically all metal precursors to the PX4 polymers.
