check out the threads at xdtalk.com; there are drop in kits from Powder River Precision and Springer Precision that'll take care of shortening the take-up, reset, and overtravel.

I'll second the Springer kit. If you are familiar with the workings of the XD and have a propensity for patience it isn't difficult to do yourself. I just did a complete trigger job on my 45 tactical. It is very short and light; it's the best polymer trigger available. What is better is that I paid a fraction of what a gunsmith would cost. Also, the springer precision website has several very good instructional videos that you will find helpful the first time you try this. With their kit, over the PRP kit, you have the benefit of easier travel adjustment as well as a stronger, milled stainless trigger bar.

I encourage you to give it a try yourself. You'll be glad you did. XD's are easy to detail strip and the job will require minimal tools. The only thing you'll need beyond a basic pin punch set is a #3 roll pin punch for the striker retaining pin. Good luck with whatever you decide. You'll be pleased with the results either way.
